I could use some local accelerated warming about now. It's March and I still feel like I'm living in the tundra. But I digress...

Future forecasts are shaky at best, as evidenced by the number of doom predictions that have already failed (one that comes to mind is the article in 2000 saying that Brits will not see snow again by 2010).

The column may be hysterics and fear-mongering, but the loss of Arctic sea ice and that ocean's impact on northern hemisphere weather patterns is valid.

I keep an eye on nsidc pretty regularly. Frankly, their images and their numbers aren't matching up these days. That's quantifiable, and maybe I'm just imagining it, but after 5 years of looking at that site, I think I have a feel for it.

That being said, the Arctic sea ice doesn't seem in bad shape.
