1-34 should be ashamed of themselves for promoting poverty through encouraging complacency.

It ought to be pegged to minimum wage, or a touch less.

Well, it's easy to see why so many are part of the system. Something about discouraging behavior you wish to stop and encouraging behavior you wish to continue seems appropriate. Just about any parent worth a crap raises their kids using the some form of this...........

Quote:The truth is that there are at least 77 major means-tested federal programs for the poor. State, county, and municipal governments operate additional welfare programs. Obviously, no one receives assistancefrom all of those programs, but most welfare recipients are eligible for a number of them. This study takes account ofthe programs from which welfare recipients are most likely to get benefits: AFDC, food stamps, Medicaid, publichousing, nutrition assistance, and utility assistance. We calculate the combined value of benefits for a welfare recipientwho fits a typical profile in each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia. We do not take into account specialstate and city low-income assistance programs that might be provided in addition to the major federal programs. Manyof the smaller federal low-income assistance programs are also not accounted for. So actual benefit levels available toa welfare family may be somewhat higher than this study indicates

Thanks! So individuals on welfare in Hawaii are pulling in $5k per month worth of total benefits? Wild.

Cost of living in Hawaii is ridiculous. Not surprised at all it is at the top of the list. A gallon of milk can go for anywhere between $5 and $9 dollars.

Hawaii's newest TV ad says "you don't have to be rich to live in Hawaii"

Why the false advertisement?

We'll, I guess you could technically be poor and live in a shack next to one of the volcanoes.

Maybe...

My point was abstract - $60k may be the poverty line in Hawaii, but the rest of the country isn't too far off. Even with a $100k household income, you aren't "living high on the hog"

That fact sits on Obama's shoulders for 10% true annual inflation.

lol, I had no idea. I've only been to Hawaii once and that was back in 2004. It is nice but really expensive considering most things have to be imported.
