Good, it was a terribly stupid idea.

It was a stupid rule because the basis for the change was bogus. Statistics from the 2012 season show that hurry-up offenses sustain a statistically significant fewer injuries in the same number of plays and fewer injuries per game than slower, huddling teams. Many suspect that hurry-up offenses actually contribute to fewer injuries because fatigue diminishes the speed of collisions.

Before they can ever pass the rule, they should have to explain how playing too quickly would result in a delay of game penalty.

My high school coach (not football; soccer and basketball) told me that "if you play hard, you'll have a lower chance of getting injured". Thinking back on it, he was right. When you're "stiff" you get hurt. Playing fast could help people loosen up...

Just saying.

There was never really a chance. It is just a reactionary publicity stunt from old-school, powerhouse coaches who don't like seeing the playing field leveled.

Even without considering hurry-up offenses, what about a team who is down by 14 with 8 or 9 minutes left in the fourth? That's a hurry-up (or certainly a "faster than normal") type situation for even a plodding pro-style offense.

The injury argument is also garbage given that most hurry-up systems are built on finesse and making use of space rather than power and speed..

I personally prefer old-style football (not that Southern Miss is that), but just because I prefer it doesn't mean that different styles should be illegal lol.

Note they also fixed the targeting penalty. If the penalty is over-turned you are no longer still assessed the 15 yards.
