RE: Internet cable?
It's bound to happen eventually.

Running fiber to homes will allow cable companies to push out 100mb + speeds to everyone and also enable 1080p full HD and 2160 UHD(4k).

I agree that it will happen eventually. However, I think a lot of people mistakenly see offerings like this and then jump to the conclusion that this means some type of a la carte scenario is on the horizon, when the reality is that this is just delivering the same basic cable bundling, only it's via the Internet as opposed to cable or a dish. It's a change in form as opposed to a change in substance.

No I think the aggregator is good for most people. Just hadn't seen anyone look to use this sort of delivery method other than the cell video provider from a few years back (Mobi?). I subscribed to it during the 2010 World Cup to get ESPN on my phone.

RE: Internet cable?
IMO cable as we know it only has about six more years before it's dead. A few years ago only tech savvy users did things like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, etc. Now Netflix has overtaken porn as the number one usage of bandwidth in the world. Your average Bob over 50 years old is starting to learn how to plug up a chromecast to his tv for 30$ and get internet content. Every year more and more people are starting to buy smart televisions and intentionally or not using the internet more and more. Along with a rapidly increasing number of companies like Netflix being created every year.

I also think advertising is a lot more effective on streaming sites like Hulu also because when you stream something your watching what you want to watch when you want to. Not just playing the TV waiting for something interesting to come on.

The real story is the Dish-Disney deal announced yesterday. http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/t/st...gle.com%2F

Dish is now authorized to include ESPN and all of Disney/ESPN/ABC's networks as part of internet programming bundles. Huge milestone.

DishWorld could be the platform for delivery. Use your Roku as your cable box.

Great news for broadband providers like telcos that do not offer bundled video. Instead of selling a satellite service on commission, they could now sell higher speed broadband to deliver Dish.

Not really... the telecoms (cable and phone) own the last mile internet connections (DSL, cable modem, etc.) and they will continue to control TV, whether we like it or not. They won't allow their connections to bastardize their TV subscriptions via online video.

Two words: Net neutrality. What you suggest would be illegal. As I suggested in my edit, for broadband providers that don't offer cable, this could also be the equalizer.

Since Net Neutrality is all but dead thanks to the corporate shilling judiciary, they're going to have virtually free reign to do whatever they wish.

RE: Internet cable?
Even when net neutrality was in place you had data limits. There are lots of ways for them to control the TV distribution.

You have to watch it via your cable internet or DSL connection.

ESPN ties ESPN3 and WatchESPN to your TV provider. Up until now people with satellite couldn't get it.

RE: Internet cable?
Highly doubt it. The costs for the ESPN channels themselves would be almost as much as the $9.

Of course the flaw in your argument and with hulu service is that I don't want to watch comercials. If the idea is to watch what I want when I want, then I am not going to watch a video with comercials. This is why I use netflix and hbo go, but don't use hulu.

It amazes me so many services don't seem to get this.
