Yes, but that doesn't mean he will take the job though.
We all know the argument for why Gregg Marshall will not take the Wake Forest job, but here is the argument for why it is a real possibility that he would take it.
1. Barring another higher profile program unexpectedly firing their coach or an unexpected retirement. Wake Forest will be the best job opening in the country this offseason.
2. Marshall went to high school in Cave Springs, Virginia about and hour and half drive from our campus. He was born in Greenwood, South Carolina. He still has family in the area and raising his kids so far away from the rest of his family was one of the things that made him hesitate about taking the Wichita State job in the first place.
3. He likes the idea of being an ACC coach. When he turned down NC State's offer a few years ago, he said that it was the only job that really tempted him to move and he was afraid that it might not get another shot at becoming an ACC coach. Well, Wake Forest is going to give him another shot. Will he turn down the opportunity again? It very well may be his last chance to get an ACC job in his home region of the Carolinas and Virginia. Duke and UNC likely make their hires from higher profile programs or their own coaching trees. NC State probably won't offer him again. UVA is unlikely to hire another coach in Marshall's window of opportunity for moving. That leaves VT, Clemson and Wake as his best chance. Wake Forest is clearly the best basketball job of the three.
4. Wake can significantly increase his salary, tv exposure and the level of recruit he can land.
5. Ron Wellman knows he has to make a big hire to make up for the damage done to the program and his reputation by Bzdelik.
