Angel Aparicio
Anyone have a sense of his trajectory in the Rockets bball program. I thought he came as a walk-on, but some say he is on scholarship. Has had 2 tough years of sitting, first from NCAA technicalities and then from a knee injury. However, he is getting back into playing shape, supposedly. Seems like a good teammate, any info on...

Is he definitely on scholarship?

What is his eligibility clock? (how many more yrs)

How's his health?

Is he any good?

He is on scholarship. I believe he has two seasons to play. Coach K said that he didn't start to practice until February, so that's why he didn't play this year. He's really 6-7, not the 6-5 as listed on the roster. Has a nice 3 point shot.

Couldn't Toledo ask for an additional year (a sixth year) as a "medical" redshirt?

Not sure who's been at UT longer, Angel or T4C8...

Hasn't Barry Church been in the NFL for about 8 years now?

RE: Angel Aparicio
There have been times this year we could have used a GREAT shooter. If he is not getting a redshirt for this year, maybe we should use him if needed. If would be great if we had enough fresh bodies to enable us to full court press all game (like we did with 3 minutes to go v W Michigan). Our offense is best when we play good defense.

Again I will raise the analogy to Fernando Righetto- a big guy (not as big as Righetto) who is more comfortable around the perimeter (although from film I've seen Angel HAS actually been in the paint before). And who speaks Spanish.

Is it OK for him to play this year without affecting his two remaining years of elibility? Our opponents would not have a scouting report on him.

Angel is our secret weapon for the tournament. Unscouted, fresh legs, defensive genius. He'll jump ball to start the game, take alley oop passes from Spoon, Provide our guaranteed outside threat and wave for everyone to clear out the lane...He's got this.

Matt Smith is a good 3 point shooter and will likely start for Seniot Night. It would be great if he could light it up against the EMU zone.
