UCF receiver J.J. Worton arrested after altercation with deputy

UCF wide receiver J.J. Worton was arrested and charged with felony resisting arrest with violence and felony battery on a peace officer early Sunday morning, according to jail records.

Orange County jail records state Worton, a 20-year-old from Homestead, was attending a St. Patrick's Day block party outside of popular UCF area bar Knight Library when an Orange County Sheriff's deputy ordered him to leave the area. Worton cursed at the deputy dressed in his official uniform and refused his orders.

A sheriff's deputy reported he placed his hands on Worton's arm, but Worton resisted and swung at the deputy with a fist in an attempt to punch him.

The deputy evaded Worton's punch, and Worton ran south through the parking lot. After deputies searched the area, they found Worton hiding under a parked vehicle. He agreed to move out from under the vehicle. When the deputies attempted to place handcuffs on Worton, began to physically resist arrest.

The deputy grabbed Worton by the waistband, and reported Worton "punched me in the face with a closed fist."

Don't know all the details but it was a bouncer (off duty cop) and charges got dropped.


O'Leary has no issue with disciplining players. Kevin Smith was benched for a game against USF which ended up being a 7 point game.

Yeah, you had to go back two years to find an incident with a UCF player. You'd have to go back several more. In the ten years GOL has been at UCF, there's been like 2 or 3 players arrested. The Jim used to do that every year it seemed like.

No you don't have to go back that far. UCF had a starting LB arrested for DUI right before the Penn State game last season. He was suspended for the remainder of the season, but is now back with the team for spring practice. UCF also had another guy arrested under suspicion of DUI in April of last year, but the charges were dropped.

UCF has largely kept their players' noses clean, but I don't think UCF has ever gone a full season without some sort of run-in with the law. I don't think any program has.

Ha. Well since we've got a whole legion of UCF posters on this site now who (for some obsessive reason) want to start multiple threads about any scrap of negativity they can find about USF... I think our friend CB is just trying to inject a wee bit of balance. lol

It might be old, but he posted it in smack so it's fair game. Still, pulling a gun on a cop is a whole step up from fighting with a bouncer.

It's not about being "factually incorrect", its pulling something over two years old up as relevant smack. Cause it would really become never ending. I mean, anyone call Google and write about two USF football players arrested in 2000. But what is the point? It doesn't affect this years team.

Oh but the thread about the USF recruit stays on the main AAC board? What a JOKE. Good job Cyberbull for testing the system. I guess they want a board filled with angry juvinile posters, and the folks who want to legitimately discuss sports need to find another forum.

UCF does a better job of keeping news like this out of the papers. Remember, all of Brandon Marshall's long list of off the field problems didn't come out until he left for the NFL.

However, with that said...USF has done a lot better job in keep players off police blotter going back to Leavitt's last two or three years. So the idea the original poster on the main page that Taggart is recruiting a bunch of thugs is smack...or a thinly vieled slap at best. Yet....that thread stays on the board and this one...gets moved.

I honestly don't care....it should have been moved to the smack board. I am just pointing the greater tolerance for UCF posters running smack than fans from other schools...especially USF.

Is there a statute of limitations on how old links need to be? That is, is it ok for KL to keep re-hashing some of the old links of articles I am sure he has bookmarked and ready to go at a moments notice....and all designed to embarrass USF? I know for a fact that I have posted smack free posts discussing the impact of the UCF being busted twice by the NCAAs that were moved b/c the moderator considered the negative news as "smack".

I agree....my post should have been moved....that was the whole point. I just want to see the moderators become more objective across the board. Quite honestly, unless a thread gets personal or breaks accepted social behaviors there shouldn't be this urge to move posts to the smack board. That is, if one or two posters are 'trolling' then warn them and ban them for a week ....or let it go. There is a fine line between moderating and censoring.

UCF fans get more leeway in what they can post....as the original troll attempt is still on the mainboard. This is clearly visible...
