I think this might be a name thread.

But I'm really not sure.

RE: Call the Law!
ESPN is the last determining factor as for as our national branding effort to be recognized as Louisiana athletically. Once they are fully on board the rest will follow.

who cares? You will always be considered 2nd to LSU, so what difference does it make?

I know you do not care, but LSU does, and LaTech does, and ULM does, and McNeese State does. It must matter for them to care so little that they changed the law after we attained a name. For me it is all about being independent and fairness. We were unfairly treated by the state and a wrong must be righted especially if that wrong is perpetrated by the state.

ESPN would be the ultimate war to win, but I think as long as SBC schools refuse to use the term "Louisiana" within their Athletic Departments...then winning all the major networks is not possible.

I guess what I don't get is that if we were called and referred to as just UL or Louisiana it would bring much more prestige to our conference---Whenever we play the other foes (OOC) they call us Louisiana because it makes them seem better---Monroe wants to be called ULM so call them that---we prefer UL so make us all look better and call us UL or Louisiana!!!

I just don't get how it would make you guys seem any better. ULL, UL, Louisiana. It isn't LSU. It's like GSU and GS fans arguing about the acronym. If you aren't UGA or GT, not many people really care.

It does look a lot better. To us. The problem is no one outside of the SBC cares whether you are ULL or Louisiana and won't percieve either one to be better than the other. The only thing that brings "prestige" to the SBC is winning.

Ohio doesn't bring prestige to the MAC because they use the name of their state. People know about Ohio because of the recent success they've had. But they are still not even in the same ball park as Ohio State. The name Ohio gives them no extra prestige. No one would be making the argument that "Louisiana" adds prestige to the conference if Louisiana was still producing 3-9 seasons. The only thing that matters is winning.

When that not so well-known Florida school surprised everyone in basketball last year it certainly wasn't because of their name. When Appalachian State beat Michigan, the excitement surrounding the game was not because they had North Carolina in their name. No one has forgotten that game happened.

The idea that a name change "would bring much more prestige to our conference" is way overselling your role in this conference. It's high because you're winning, but not that high. Just keep winning and everything will work itself out.
