Don't see much of it in the news anymore. Even the rumor mill has gone silent.

It is for today. I think they "Big 5" or so are still working toward their own league though.

All it takes is for one conference to start the money grab and all the others jump in.

I wonder if the O'Bannon lawsuit will start the musical chairs shuffling again.

Nope still rolling. Just last week the B12 or whatever # was reported to be in discussion for expansion, maybe back to four. TX "reportedly" is advocating for SMU, Cincy would be in good shape, Houston is lobbying hard and the new BB facility is "reportedly" a direct response to the need to upgrade facilities for the run.

What makes TX happy is at the top of the league concerns. They do not want to lose TX. Strategic market expansion, TV markets, a carefully crafted footprint, overall value brought to the table and keeping the basketball schools from getting POd about the football emphasis. Academic standards has role also.

Memphis is still in the hunt as are one or both Florida schools.

That's all my B12 sources says right now which is not really that specific.

RE: So is conference realignment done?
It is for now, while the schools in the ACC and Big XII have signed their media rights away. It's not worth it to give away ALL your media revenue for a few years to jump conferences. So for the next six years or so, everybody goes back to their corner and builds and plans, and then after that the old complaints start up again - FSU and Clemson upset with their split with the basketball schools; Texas looking again to go to the West Coast, or East Coast, or anywhere outside of Kansas and Iowa; Baylor shooting everybody in the back in an attempt to stay in major college athletics, and of course, every school outside the P5 begging for a place at the table.

Only a matter of time.

Yeah, I think we're in a 2005 - 2011 type "resting" period...

I don't know what the Big XII gets with SMU or Houston. TCU football gets some air time but until this year I had never seen a SMU basketball highlight on TV in DFW in the ten years I've lived here.

Texas, A&M, Oklahoma and Tech pretty much own the market here so I don't see what market they would be gaining.

RE: So is conference realignment done?
Texas doesn't need a voting block. Texas, the state or the university, has won pretty much every political battle within the Big XII since joining.

The old Big 8 headquarters was in Missouri. It moved to Dallas.
Most of the championship where played in Texas.
TV money distributed unequally.
The Longhorn Network.

It absolutely infuriated Nebraska and Missouri, who screamed bloody murder then left as soon as they could. A&M was in a little bit of a position to challenge them, because of internal Texas politics, but they finally got upset and left as well. All UT does is look over at OU and say "You good with that?" and then it's done. UT laughs at the idea of friends.

I'd love to see SMU in the Big XII, but I have to admit it's a longshot as it stands now.

We're in a pretty good hoops league now. It should stay that way even after Louisville leaves and until the next round of realignment. I don't expect Memphis to ever get a seat at the big boy table. Until some combo of Cincy, UConn and probably the FLA schools and maybe the Texas schools get snatched up, I'm just gonna enjoy the league we're in. Once that's gone, at least we'll have road trips to B-ham and H-burg.

RE: So is conference realignment done?
Voting block? Maybe. Could be a ploy by the B12 similar to how they played Louisville; act like they want them so that they will not vote for higher exit fees out of the AAC.

Until the Maryland exit fee is determined, that will hang some of the re-alignment. They likely want a couple of AAC teams. They just don't want to deal with $50M-$100M in exit fees to pull that off.

I also believe the B12 will evaluate filling in the geography a bit, because West Virginia seems to be struggling a bit in this regard.

I really see little value in adding SMU or Houston to their footprint. I see zero value in adding both. But then again, I didn't think they would add TCU because they wouldn't add much. They did add TCU. I still dont see the value. So what do I know.

They got a football school with street cred with TCU who had also just ponied up over $100 million for football stadium renovations.

Funny thing is, you can still find crowds at TCU games hovering around 35,000 on a normal Saturday. Of course that changes when Texas, Baylor, Oklahoma or Ok State come to town every few years. To be fair, the new stadium is awesome and a great place to watch a game.

I don't know why TX would be making goo goo eyes at SMU but that was what was reported.

I didn't say they wanted Houston I talked about Houston working to position for the next round. Just like us.

8 doesn't work for the long run. They will expand and I don't think it will wait five years to remedy.

Ivan has been around a long time but he is one man with one mans opinion.
