I hope he coaches linebackers better than he coached the Bluffton football team.

Bluffton used to be one of THE WORST D3 teams in the country. They were 15-15 the last 30 games, which was good for them.

Was just going to post the same thing. He has brought that program back to respectability. So djsfw, be careful what you say about somebody's abilities until you know the entire history. Looks to me, he's a good hire. Go Rockets!!!!

Appears to be a timing and $$ issue. Lets hope he is an addition. Makes you hope this works out for the staff and players.

RE: Campbell Hires Bluffton Coach For His Staff
Have had a chance to talk to this coach a half dozen times. Seems like a hard worker. Solid knowledge of game. He did a wonderful job of taking a really, really bad program and making them a threat against even the best. He did a great job of recruiting in a rather hard to recruit situation. When you are the head coach at a D 3, its mind boggling all the things you have to do. There are not many assistants to pass the responsibilities off too. Time will tell, but the guy is a class act who is well respected by most if not all on campus and former players. Wish him and the rockets well. By the way, he once took a shot at recruiting a family member who ended up at 1AA. He was very good at selling his program, just couldn't compete due to level difference and money. Everything being equal, he would of won hands down over multiple other schools.

That's good to hear since I read somewhere earlier (maybe in a link from this thread?) that he was going to be the recruiting coordinator.

If memory serves, this guy is a terrific recruiter and just an all around good guy. He should be a great addition to the Rocket staff.

Was looking at this page and noticed Jason Candle isn't listed. Is he not coming back?

I don't feel the need to be careful about what I say. And the "history" I was referring to is all summed up in this statement from the article:

"In six seasons at Bluffton, Veidt compiled a record of 20-40."

I don't care how bad the program was before, the fact remains that he lost twice as many games as he won. That's why I said I hope he coaches linebackers better than he did Bluffton. I am comfortable standing by that.

Sometimes it takes a few years for a coach to change the culture of a program and bring in the guys that fit his style of play. At a school with limited resources like Bluffton it can take a little longer that say a school like Southern Cal or Alabama......

Looks like a good hire to me. A mature guy with some organizational skills and an appreciation for success in the classroom. Should be able to help bring in some quality student-athletes.
