Amen. Everything else is secondary. Tried to buy a generator today, but to fin done that would make a difference with a well pump and electric heat is prohibitively expensive and needs to be hard-wired into the house. Gonna have to do it at one point.

Half of Somerville is without power.

Ice storm in progress in Midtown. Trees covered in ice, branches falling, wind picking up.

I went out to move my car out from under my huge tree, saw a big limb down in my yard, moved my car quickly, heard branches snapping, RAN back inside the house. It's just a matter of time before the power goes out. See y'all on the other side of this.....

RE: Ice Storm Warning
Memphis dodged a major bullet here. The cold air was predicted to drop temps below freezing between 4-5 PM and the precipitation amounts exceeded the forecast totals by a wide margin. It could have been '94 redux, maybe not as bad, but close.

The freezing line stayed put about 25 miles away for 6 or 7 hours. Quite a stroke of luck.

I hate when my work calls for a delayed opening 30 minutes before I am supposed to be there. I'm fine with coming in or a delay...but if it is going to be a delay please make it to where I'm not up and all completely ready to go to work before you push it back 2 hours.

If this is dodging a bullet, I'd hate to get shot.

Finally the coverage of the winter weather by the local channels equals the harshest of the conditions.

When I was a child, March 1 was the beginning of shorts weather in Memphis except for one stupid year (1994). And even then it was 70 degrees two days after the ice storm!

Me too - I can tough it out and wrap up but the woman had the car dug out and was exploring pet-friendly hotel options. She's too skinny to do any kind of cold weather without heat.

Nashville, at least within the city, is icy in patches but drivable. Everyone in my office stayed at home. My wife had oral surgery scheduled so staying home was not an option.

You were a child in '94? Yikes, I am old.
