MSNBC's Mark Halperin: “Ronald Reagan Never Faced A Soviet Leader Like This”

This is just insane. MSNBC making excuses for Barry being an idiot and not having a clue how to handle this situation. But by golly he can handle gay football players coming out.

Mark Halperin says that dealing with Vladimir Putin is like “Russian roulette,” citing the concern of one world leader whether the Russian president is in touch with reality.

“It’s almost like dealing with the North Koreans,” Halperin said Monday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” “It’s Russian roulette with a guy who is just unstable and isn’t going to play by the right rules.”
The political analyst and author also cited a New York Times report published Sunday that said in her call with President Barack Obama, German Chancellor Angela Merkel raised doubts about Putin being in touch with reality, saying he is “in another world.”

Halperin called it “the scariest thing I’ve seen in the last 24 hours.”

“President [Ronald] Reagan never faced a Soviet leader like this. This guy is ruthless,” Halperin added.

He said he doesn’t think Obama “has a lot of cards to play,” but noted that the president needs to “brief the heck out of Congress to keep them on board,” that the European Union is more or less united and that Obama has to be seen as the leader of a united NATO front.

Putin is anything but "unstable." That comment shows where the commentator is at, behind.

Well Ill say this... Putin is far more of a hard liner than Gorby was but that does not make barry's incompetence any better. If anything he should have been more prepared for this.

Hell Carter did a better job with the soviets than Barry is!

Agreed... Putin did the calculus and...

US will do nothing (not our back yard nor does it serve our interest)
Europe will do nothing (Russia supplies a huge chunk of their energy)

Turkey is the only nation that can impact Russia and Im not sure that want a part of this either.

Turkey can isolate Russia in the area quite easily. Turkey also has fairly close ties with Europe, much closer than Ukraine does or ever has.

For now. The push by the hard line right in Turkey may eventually change that though.

Wasn't able to find a link on this but heard it on the tube this morn or last night, but it stated that if Crimea was ever invaded by any foreign forces, Crimea must be returned to Turkey. This treaty was apparently signed in the 1700's. Anyone find a link or hear anymore about this?

Yea, but Russia will find it harder to push Turkey who has concrete treaties in place with the West. Tangling with them is a much larger gamble than doing so with Ukraine.

More importantly as close as they are tied the Turks are still not beholden to the EU... So they could lock up the Black Sea and Europe could deny any blame.

I don't know how real that is. The region has been invaded several times since the 18th century. The British, French, Germans, Romanians, and a few more have all fought over it since then.

That's what I was thinking and why I posed the question. 07-coffee3

Definitely agree and you're absolutely right that right now Turkey is definitely more aligned with the west.

Turkey has it's own issues right now. There were those massive protests and evidently their leader is embroiled with some internal scandal right now. Not sure Turkey wants to get involved in all this Ukrainian mess.

Oh, yeah, could anyone ever imagine Obama having the balls to deliver a "Tear down this wall" type speech to the Russians? Me neither.

If there is such a treaty about the Crimea, it was probably fallout from the Crimean War in the mid 1800s, which pitted the UK, Ottomans and French against Russia for control of the Crimea. The cause...

Crimean War - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crimean_War Wrote:The immediate issue involved the rights of Christians in the Holy Land, which was controlled by the Ottoman Empire. The French promoted the rights of Catholics, while Russia promoted those of the Orthodox.

The Charge of the Light Brigade (poem) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Charge...ade_(poem) Wrote:

.  The Charge of the Light Brigade
.  Half a league, half a league,
.   Half a league onward,
.  All in the valley of Death,
.   Rode the six hundred.
.  'Forward, the Light Brigade!
.  Charge for the guns' he said:
.  Into the valley of Death
.   Rode the six hundred.
.
.  'Forward, the Light Brigade!'
.  Was there a man dismay'd?
.  Not tho' the soldiers knew
.   Some one had blunder'd:
.  Theirs not to make reply,
.  Theirs not to reason why,
.  Theirs but to do and die:
.  Into the valley of Death
.   Rode the six hundred.
.
.  Cannon to right of them,
.  Cannon to left of them,
.  Cannon in front of them
.   Volley'd and thunder'd;
.  Storm'd at with shot and shell,
.  Boldly they rode and well,
.  Into the jaws of Death,
.  Into the mouth of Hell
.   Rode the six hundred.
.
.  Flash'd all their sabres bare,
.  Flash'd as they turned in air
.  Sabring the gunners there,
.  Charging an army while
.   All the world wonder'd:
.  Plunged in the battery-smoke
.  Right thro' the line they broke;
.  Cossack and Russian
.  Reel'd from the sabre-stroke
.  Shatter'd and sunder'd.
.  Then they rode back, but not
.  Not the six hundred.
.
.  Cannon to right of them,
.  Cannon to left of them,
.  Cannon behind them
.   Volley'd and thunder'd;
.  Storm'd at with shot and shell,
.  While horse and hero fell,
.  They that had fought so well
.  Came thro' the jaws of Death,
.  Back from the mouth of Hell,
.  All that was left of them,
.   Left of six hundred.
.
.  When can their glory fade?
.  O the wild charge they made!
.   All the world wonder'd.
.  Honour the charge they made!
.  Honour the Light Brigade,
.   Noble six hundred!
.

I don't get it. What exactly would you want Obama to do that he hasn't done?
