Dude has 3 MLS Cups to his record. If he is anything, he is a winner.

Still amazed he has 14 caps. I would've never guessed he had that many.

yup. I just never remembered him having that many. Too bad he played the same position as probably the best field player in US history.

he played on the Gold Cup in place of Reyna one year, that's 5-6 caps right there.

Was that the same team with Chris Michner, Ross Paule, and Carey Talley?

RE: Mulling over Mulrooney
I can't speak to how hard working he was on the field as I never had the opportunity to play against him (although I'm sure he would have made me look foolish) what I can attest to is how hard he worked off the field. I had the opportunity to interact with him briefly at Campbell Clinic. From what I remember he suffered a nasty ankle/lower leg fracture prior to his senior year at CBHS and didn't play his final season. I had torn my quad (initially during wrestling season but again during soccer season). My rehab was a joke compared to his and I never once heard him complain. That guy worked hard all of the time. If that is still the case then I feel that the men's soccer program is in good hands.

Yep. Bute cranked out some talent.

But was he better than Steve Cherundolo, Frankie Hejduk, Tonny Sanneh? The Rivals article says he played defensive midfield AND right back. I always wondered why they didnt try him at right back once Hejduk and Sanneh got old, seems like Cherundolo was/is always injured and noone of his fill-ins never impressed.

he was not better than Sanneh and Cherundolo in my opinion. I think once the injuries started hitting our RBs, he was considered on the backend of his career.

He worked his tail off. Richard Bute graded out Mulrooney's MFC team player by player every week. Mulrooney would be furious if he didn't top the chart, even if it was a tenth of a point. He would train harder and when the others saw him doing it they trained harder. Those guys and Cindy Parlow pushed each other so hard Bute had to tell them to ease up. That hasn't happened often. And you are correct--he did not play his senior year.

I played against that team several times before I moved down an age group. That team was loaded.

Good article and they reached out to some good folks. Memphis soccer is in good hands.
