I don't know but I don't think their coach Greg M. will be there next year. I think he is going to get hired at a big school. guy can coach

He got some job offers last year after he went to the Final 4 but stayed at Wichita State.

RE: Wichita State
you have to give an undefeated team the 1 seed, that's no question. I think nobody really has a handle on how good they are though. Sure they made the final 4 last year but do you remember their draw? 8-9 game, then beat 1 seed gonzaga, then got a 13 seed, then beat Ohio State who had hardly looked strong in the tourney.

Just wondering how you project what they can do. I think you have to pencil them into the sweet 16 but then there's really no frame of reference. Their only truly good win is St. Louis.

Has St. Louis beaten anybody? Not really, their best win is conference foe VCU, who they edged by 2 at home and just lost the rematch at VCU. SLU's only good wins are in conference. It's a closed feedback loop at this point, a black box.

He's happy with his kids' school situation. Besides, he's been overheard saying, "I want to coach at WSU... WSU is where I want to be."

WSU's non conference SOS was 34th this year which is very good actually.

Many of the "cupcake" games you mention are not even under Marshall's control.

Davidson - Bracketbuster's return game
Hall of Fame Classic - Tennessee State
Hall of Fame Classic - William and Mary
Hall of Fame Classic - Depaul

WSU could not find *ANY* decent opponent for a neutral court game which is why they did not play in the tipoff classic in Dallas and had to play a div 2 instead.

The Tigers were in much the same position back in CUSA. We couldn't get schools from the Big 5 to play us home and home. Cal was able to get some games against marquee teams on neutral courts once the number of preseason tournaments increased. Once he got us going it seemed we were able to get some home and homes, TV played a part in those perhaps?

I haven't seen Wichita State play much but when I have seen them I was impressed. They really move the ball on offense and have good shooters. They deserve a 1 seed!

It is easier to get home and homes with big schools when the big school believes that you will continue to be successful year in and year out and TV is interested in the game.

RE: Wichita State
WSU is most definitely a #1 seed if they don't do something embarrassing in their conference tournament.

In my opinion, anyone prattling on about some other nonsense is flat wrong. Their schedule was not the strongest, but if you play and BEAT everyone on the slate in front of you, it's hard to argue with that.

We just lost to Houston, which just proves that even a good team can lose to a less-good team on the road in conference at any time. With WSU's schedule they had to be perfect. No slip-ups like we had vs. Houston.

Also, I've WATCHED the team play. Anyone who says "I hope we draw them"... be careful what you wish for. Personally, I'd rather play Florida again. Who knows what WSU will do "against better competition" or whatever, but having watched them flat out smash people, I don't want my team to be the beta tester.

OOC SOS is 34.

Lazy narrative is lazy.

I give credit to Wichita St for winning every game, and for winning them in decent fashion. They are not simply skating by some morbidly bad teams like St Louis was doing. They are beating them, and beating them handidly.

The MVC was one of the RPI manipulating conferences, and you can tell from Wichita's OOC schedule, they were operating in that mode. Very winnable games against teams who would likely have an rpi around 50. Of course, this was all they needed back before the MVC got pilfered. Now their conference rpi blows, and they are living off of their OOC wins, which really aren't that stellar.

The rpi manipulating days are over. Wichita St will have to start scheduling some meat in the OOC. They will get penalized by the committee if they don't. They wont get penalized this year, but going forward that type of OOC schedule will take its toll.

The MVC members other than Wichita St have a 2-28 record against the RPI top 50. That is morbidly bad, and far worse than the years Memphis was in CUSA.

Again, I take nothing away from their winning streak. That's tough to do no matter who you play, as we all know. But the days of avoiding true top 25 teams in their OOC will come to an end after this year, or they will get smacked for it.

I can relate. But the fact remains that we at least made an effort at scheduling some good non-conference games. For the most part, we always played a decent OOC schedule.

And I don't buy that nobody will play them.

they were supposed to be in a neutral site game at Jerrys Palace in Dallas .. NOBODY would play them. Jerry had to find two more teams ... They have a standing offer to play any major team home and home with the first game being at the other team's home first, NOBODY would play them. They schedule Alabama and UTK -- how were they to know that they would both suck (btw utk beat the ACC champs by 30pts)

Anybody that thinks that an undefeated team ranked #2 in the country that made the final four last year does not deserve a #1 seed is a small minded person, if that person is a coach that refused to schedule Witchita St then they are a hypocrite too.

I never said they didn't deserve a # 1 seed. I happen to think they do. The post I was addressing was drawing a comparison between them and us when we were in CUSA and while there are definite similarities and I can certainly relate, there are also differences. We were able to schedule good teams OOC and they didn't. That's all.

Marshal has said he will only take a job if it is one of the 2 best jobs in the conference. He is following the Phil Jackson model.
