Cable Alternatives
Tired of TWC. Buddy of mine tells me he got Roku about six months ago and wishes had had done it a long time ago. What are your thoughts? Is it cheaper and do you get more stations? How is the picture quality?

RE: Cable Alternatives
I posted this in another thread. I purchased an Apple Tv 2 jailbroken. Im not sure if you can jailbreak the 3s yet. It came with a program called XMBC. I can stream any tv channel including hbo and showtime (without an account) for free. It lets you watch any tv show/movie there is via project free tv or channel 1 or mashup. I can watch any live sporting event(even PPV boxing and MMA matches) again for free.
Another option is called Pansat. I purchased one, but have not used it yet because you need to have a dish to plug it into.(which the house im moving into has) From the guy who told me to buy it it has every channel that Dish network or Direct TV would have...except there is NO MONTHLY BILL. Other than your internet.
You can watch basically anything you want online and use an HDMI cord to your TV as well.
The last option I know of is that cable box Mo egger always advertises. I think its called Sling Box. The way this works is you plug it into someone who already has cable/direct tv/dish and you watch anything they have. But if they are watching something on that tv you cant change the channel. But from what ive heard, Direct TV charges $12 a month for another receiver. If your parents or someone you know of has Direct TV ask them if you can purchase another box for them and set it up in a room noone uses so then you will never have to worry about not being able to change the channel

I've used a Roku for years. Picture quality is dependent on bandwidth, but anything above 5 mb/s downstream will get you high def if it's available for the stream. There are plenty of free offerings available for the Roku, but I primarily use it for MLB, Amazon Prime, and Netflix which of course are pay services. A very easy method to use streaming services. Here's what thay have available.
