At first I thought it was a joke. It is almost the exact same logo and team colors.

I saw the original Panthers play in the USFL. It was good football.

RE: OT: Michigan Panthers
I saw in the PR piece speculation that they can get Denard Robinson and Dan LaFevour (sp?). Robinson will probably have to be cut first.

When the USFL started they tried to get each team to have a local flavor, so the MI Panthers had an advantage getting players from local schools. They brought in uofm QB John Wangler to get attention, but Wangler was easily outplayed by Bobby Hebert. Hebert was a southern boy from deep in Louisiana. He went to one of the smaller programs in the state. After the USFL folded he played for the NO Saints.

USFL did indeed play very good FB and sent a lot of very good players to the NFL.

Think of the names: Reggie White, Herschel Walker, Steve Young, etc.

They had great players at all positions even those like OL and other non-marquis positions.

(much like the old ABA which had a lot of basketball stars who moved over to the NBA later).

Tickets are probably gonna cost around 30 and they are looking to play at Ford Field and if they can't they are gonna play at the Silverdome

The USFL Panthers were exciting to watch, I often wished the Lions had disbanded or moved and the Panthers had stayed.

I wish I got to see the original Panthers, but my mom was only 3 or 4 when they played.

I watched one of the sad sack teams of the league, Washington Federals, play at RFK Stadium.

This is just my opinion but I believe there would be room for another professional football league or basketball league as long at either one did some exciting or different things. The old ABA had the three point shot (actually stole that one from the old ABL) and the red white and blue ball.

All 11 players are eligible to go down field, search A11 Offense.

I would like to see another spring FB league.

I'm not sure what is 'new', but the ABA had the 3 point shot, as indicated, and the 2 point PAT came from the AFL (American Football League). The CFL 1-point rouge (?).

IF I'm right, the NFL agreed to the 2 point PAT as part of the merger agreement along with the Super Bowl and common draft.

Re: OT: Michigan Panthers
This league could see more EMU and like schools having players in it, so I'd suggest having interest in it. Better than hearing news about them being on practice squads.

It is more accurate to say that the NBA and ABA merged as whole franshises joined the NBA. The USFL folded on the other hand and individual players were picked up by the NFL.

Testing my memory: NBA accepted some ABA teams and conducted a dispersal draft for other players.

Yes, the USFL folded. Funny story: They won an anti-trust suit and had the judgement tripled. The judge awarded $1 and tripled it to $3.

Donald Trump, who owned the New Jersey Generals, killed the USFL.

I've heard that. They had a plan to spend big on a few marque players but keep salaries reasonable, but...

Also the owner of the L.A. team spent like a drunken sailor (remember Steve Young? Gary Zimmerman, and a bunch more).

Bobby Hebert, Anthony Carter,John Corker, Ray Bentley,Ray Pinney, Ken Lacy, etc. I was at the first play-off game at the Silverdome. Good crowd.
John Sebastian of the Loving Spoonful and Welcome Back Kotter Theme fame sang the National Anthem and performed at halftime. Panthers had some nice cheerleaders too.

Might be able to see the Panthers play at the silverdome once more, should share this with your rocket buddies, you guys are within the vicinity and lord knows we all have to put up with having the Lions and/or the Browns break our hearts every year.
