An ASun championship game in the Dome?
Are we saying farewell to this Bucs team on Tuesday? Not so fast...

Let’s say that ETSU manages to upset USCU, and FGCU and Mercer win out.

Then ETSU is a 3rd seed, USCU is a 4th, Mercer is a 1st and FGCU a 2nd.

If USCU and Mercer each win the first round, they would play each other in the second. USCU has beaten Mercer once this year, albeit at home.

If ETSU also manages to upset FGCU in Fort Myers (and we’ve beaten them once)...

Then the ASun championship game would be ETSU vs. USCU.

In the Dome right?????

Another scenario: Jacksonville upsets FGCU in the first round (they have already beaten FGCU once, albeit at home).

Then, if ETSU wins its first round game, it would get a second rounder against Jacksonville… in the Dome.

A Bucs win and a USCU win over Mercer (whom they’ve beaten once) would give the Bucs a championship game in the Dome (its 3rd tournament game at home).

But suppose that the Bucs LOSE the final regular season game against USCU???

Then ETSU probably gets a 4th seed, USCU a 3rd, Mercer a 1st and FGCU 2nd .

The Bucs would have to win a 2nd round road game at Mercer to get to the final.

But if USCU or Jacksonville knocks off FGCU, the Bucs could still wind up playing an ASun tournament final against Jacksonville or USCU in the Dome.

So some very interesting scenarios could still play out here. The most interesting, with a series of tournament games in the Dome, would require a win at USCU Friday to set it up.

I was just thinking all this. ETSU MUST WIN Friday night, and they really need Gulf Coast to handle their business against Lipscomb. Jacksonville has given teams fits this year, as has Upstate. They could very well land as the four and upset Mercer. A lot of craziness has to happen, but the A-Sun has produced that. It would be awesome to win this last one.

If the Bucs lose to Upstate, then FGCU is the one and Mercer is the two as long as they both win out.

If ETSU wins friday, nothing else matters- we are the 3 seed. Right?

I really, really, really hope we win Friday night. That would open up many possibilities as SWVA has written above. That win would up the probabilities of us pregressing in the tournament. Losing puts us playing either Mercer or GC on the road... Yes we could upset them there but I would prefer some fortunate upsets that lets us play the other rounds here also.

Yes, you're right. So my scenario about what happens after a loss against USCU needs adjusting.

If we lose, and FGCU beats Lipscomb, then we are the 4th seed and get Tuesdays home game against either Lipscomb or UNF.

Our second game would probably be against FGCU in Fort Myers.
We are 1-1 against FGCU, although the result in Fort Myers was less than ideal the first time around.

Mercer meanwhile would open with its second home game against Jacksonville in a 3 day span (since they close the season playing Jacksonville in Macon on Saturday). Not an easy task. Mercer's second game would be at home USCU - who trounced Mercer in Spartanburg, and lost by 2 in overtime in Macon. Again, not an easy task. So Mercer is REALLY rooting for us to knock off USCU.

Thus, if we survive FGCU, we'd get a home game in the Dome for the ASun championship against Jacksonville, or a road game against USCU or Mercer.

Some interesting possibilities even after a loss - though we badly need to go into the tournament playing winning basketball.

In your second scenario (losing to upstate tomorrow): I understand how we could possibly play Jax at home in the title, but how could we end up playing USCU in the dome if they are the higher seed?

Like I said to Statman, my first post needed adjusting. Lose to USCU and we can't play them in the Dome. I think that my second post got it right, as quoted above.

I think the age old expression is applicable here: "Just win."

Our work is cut out for us: I can't remember the last time we've won at Upstate.

Looks like we're gonna need the win tomorrow to host. I just don't see Lipscomb losing to Stetson after Stetson is getting destroyed by NKU.

UNF & Lipscomb both look to finish 10-8. Either ETSU or USCU will as well. Who gets the 4th/final home game?

Good question. Looks like it will come down to the tiebreakers.

RE: An ASun championship game in the Dome?
Pitiful showing by FGCU and Mercer - either could have grabbed 1st seed. Neither wanted it.

Don't know which was worse, FGCU going into a fetal position on the road in a game that was never close, or Mercer failing to take care of business in a tight one at home.

Hope we show a damn sight better than that against USCU. I really didn't think we'd have to.
