Yeah, the lineup is pretty underwhelming. I think Bone Thugs is on the bill, too.

311? Had forgotten about them.

Every year I see people complain about the line up, but to me it has always been okay. This year is truly hurting. Like the CA article stated the competition is fierce. Alabama Shakes is cool. I can hear my mother screaming at me now to turn down Bootsy Collins while I was wearing the album cut out Bootsy shades, so that means I'm old now. Bone Thugs-N-Harmony is good, but how relevant are they now. Local girl Ana Popovic is decent eye candy, but no one knows her. I can't see the Patti Labelle crowd, which would be my mother and aunts, going out there. With such a bad lineup, the weather has to be great this year.

This is the weakest lineup I've ever seen. I love herman - he's great people but he and Richard/Freeworld can all be seen on Beale street weekly. Pretty lights plays newbys, memphis dawls play often, the allstars are no strangers to these parts, and Isbell was an english major at the UofM who tours almost non-stop.

I've never seen so many regularly playing locals in a MiM lineup before.

Memphis and May was usually one of the first festivals of the season - one of the big things it had going for it. Now there are a lot of festivals that have sprung up and they're earlier and earlier.

The MiM organization will have to really work hard to keep things going or this music festival will wither on the vine.

I'm happy for the local bands that got in - one of my friends is in ghost town blues band, who placed 2nd in the IBC competition here around a month ago.

But the bigger acts are nothing that's gonna get me down there. I'll just consider that money saved..
VERY disappointed OutKast won't be there.

Definite lack of star power at the top. You could argue that all of the headliners would be really solid second tier performers, but no one at the top to bring people down on their own. Overall, a decent line-up if you already really enjoy the event and don't necessarily care who is playing. Just nobody in the lineup that would bring people down there that weren't already planning on going.

there's almost 18-20 local/regional acts. I've never seen that before at MiM.

RE: Beale St. Music Fest
Bands that I've seen at Musicfest that I would say are better than any of the headliners this year:

George Clinton and P-funk (a few times)
Bob Dylan (a few times)
Willie Nelson ( a couple of times)
The Black Crowes (a bunch of times)
Chuck Berry
Jack Johnson (twice)
Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals
Ben Harper and Relentless 7
Aretha Franklin
Foo Fighters (twice)
Beck
Dave Matthews Band (a couple of times at least)
The Wailers
G Love and Special Sauce (a couple of times)
Indigo Girls
Ziggy Marley (a couple of times)

Again, its not that this year has a bad lineup, it just seems that they forgot to book the headliners

Holly Ford (MIM Director of MKTG) repeated twice this morning that we'd have attendees from all 52 states. I may go just to find out who has been granted statehood. Bermuda and Costa Rica would be cool.

Probably added DC and Puerto Rico, or wanted people to talk about something other than disappointment with the line-up.

Sounds like we went to many of the same ones over the years. I'll add Bonnie Raitt to that list. She put on a great show.

Good call. And I forgot the year that Big Star and Wilco played on Friday, and neither one was a headliner.

The Fest's defacto headliner plays on the Island on April 30th. It sold out quick. Make it a long weekend and stubhub a Slowhand ticket.

Only thing on that lineup I haven't seen and want to is STS9 and Grouplove. I'm sure the Dropkick Murphy's are fun live. I'll see STS9 at Hangout though, so I may drop in on Friday. It's a bad lineup.
