Spring Football 2014
Figured it'd be a good idea to start a thread to discuss spring ball since it apparently starts tomorrow.

Can't wait to see the competition at QB, DB and both lines. Looks like we're pretty well set at WR and RB (maybe not depth-wise for RB).

Anyone know what the deal is with the spring game this year? I thought I read it'll be at PBS, which would make sense.

If our O line pieces it together, I would be willing to bet this team will be conference champs

RE: Spring Football 2014
Here's a list put together by the Enquirer of the departed and those that remain:

http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20140...ck_check=1

Quote:The University of Cincinnati men’s football team is going to look a lot different this year. Here’s a look at the positions that will be affected.

OFFENSE
Starters leaving (4): QB Brendon Kay, LG Austen Bujnoch, RG Sam Longo, WR Anthony McClung

Other key departures: TE Blake Annen, OL Andre Cureton, OL Dan Sprague, QB Jordan Luallen, QB Bennie Coney (transferring)

Starters back (7): RB Ralph David Abernathy IV (Sr.), LT Eric Lefeld (Sr.), C Deyshawn Bond (So.), RT Parker Ehinger (Jr.), WR Max Morrison (Jr.), WR Shaq Washington (Jr.), WR Chris Moore (Jr.)

DEFENSE
Starters leaving (5): DT Jordan Stepp, DT Adam Dempsey, MLB Greg Blair, CB Deven Drane, S Arryn Chenault

Other key departures: DT Marques Aiken, DT Mitch Meador

Starters back (6): DE Silverberry Mouhon (Jr.), DE Terrell Hartsfield (Sr.), OLB Nick Temple (Sr.), OLB Jeff Luc (Sr.), S Zach Edwards (So.), CB Howard Wilder (Sr.)

SPECIAL TEAMS
Starters leaving: Holder Brendon Kay, PR Anthony McClung

Starters returning: K Tony Miliano (Sr.), P John Lloyd (Sr.), LS Kirk Willis (Jr.), KR Rod Moore (Sr.)

We have to replace both starting guards, QB, WR and TE on offense, and starting safety, DTs, MLB, and one of the starting corners on D. Also, Milliano has got to get it together on special teams. Obviously sorting out the starting situation is key, but we have major depth issues on both sides of the line. Honestly, the only position i feel really good about is the WRs. The youngins need to grow up ASAP.

It's waaaaaaaaaaaayyyy too early for talk like this.

Let's get through the Spring without any major injuries or attrition first, eh?

Btw, RDAIV has been moved to the slot. So yay for not having 15-20 plays up the middle go for a guaranteed no gain!

RE: Spring Football 2014
Just checked the gobearcats roster. Obviously not updated because Posley, Johnson and Coney are all still listed, but some interesting tidbits:

Kevin Brown is listed as a LB. Maybe trying to produce a Temple 2.0
Rodriguez Moore is still listed as a RB
And these are the OLs on the roster:

75 Kevin Schloemer OL 6-7 312 SR-2L
66 David Niehaus OL 6-1 288 SO-SQ
72 Garrett Campbell OL 6-5 308 FR-RS
74 Justin Murray OL 6-5 294 JR-SQ
62 Cory Keebler OL 6-7 294 SR-3L
67 Kyle Williamson OL 6-5 281 SO-SQ
73 Ryan Leahy OL 6-6 282 SO-SQ
71 Eric Lefeld OL 6-6 309 SR-3L
64 Will Steur OL 6-4 303 FR-RS
59 Deyshawn Bond OL 6-2 287 SO-1L
65 Tyreek Burwell OL 6-5 286 SR-TR
69 Dominic Mainello OL 6-3 280 SR-1L
78 Parker Ehinger OL 6-7 292 JR-2L

Of the above names, Schloemer, Murray, Keebler, Williamson, Leahy, Lefeld, Bond and Ehinger are players i recall as being on schollys. Tyreek Burwell is a total mystery to me. Listed as a transfer, i don't recall any announcement of this. i think everyone else is a walk - on. And i don't know who the backup Center is. Anyone?

Hey, if we can discuss the quality of our recruiting classes on signing day, I say we can get way ahead of ourselves during sprin training as well!

Wasn't Burwell originally a TE somewhere in NY? Pretty sure Mainello is the backup Center too.

If I had to venture a guess at our starting OL it would be:
LT: Lefeld
LG: Keebler
C: Bond
RG: Schloemer
RT: Ehinger

Looks like he is from SUNY Cortland.

I don't suppose UC will have a Spring game. I'm guessing it will be like what they had last year.

I wonder if they would consider having a Spring game at PBS to promote playing there next season?

I'm excited to Eric Wilson, the OLB transfer from Northwestern too. Lots of Northwestern guys were VERY angry to lose him. The battle to replace Luc's OLB spot will be interesting this spring.

Our LB corp is interesting. The only solid returner is Temple. i think a lot was expected of Jean Luc but he seemed to disappear quite a bit. Perhaps he was just getting back into form since he had such a long delay off the field but i'm hoping he finds his stride this season. Same for Solomon Tentman, if for no other reason than i want the local prospect who stuck it out all these years to get rewarded for his efforts. After that there are a lot of question marks. i recall Clemente Casseus making plays. Corey Mason making plays mostly on special teams. i'm very curious about Eric Wilson, Kevin Brown and Ey Shawn McClain, all question marks in my book. As far as Kevin Mouhon, if he deserves to see the field, by all means, he shouldn't have to redshirt.

The one thing people fail to realize is that Luck was playing out of position all years last year. I feel like he'll make a fairly processed jump in production by moving to the middle this season, a position where his naturally talents and physical ability better fits.

Or we could end up going to a 4-2-5.

Didn't see this guy on the list of returners. Like his play/potential:
2 Mekale McKay WR 6-6 195 JR-1L Louisville, Ky./Moore/Arkansas

I think Tentman is just now getting back to being 100% after his injury.

At one point they were going to build stands as part of the Jefferson Ave. Complex and even talked about hosting high school games down there... I guess I haven't paid close attention, but did that ever happen?

(That's my round-about way of asking "Can they use the practice facility for a spring game"?)
