Midwest looks like the toughest region...
followed by the South. Do you think Wichita State is excited that Louisville is a No. 4?

Midwest is always the toughest region due to the NCAA seeding teams close to home. There are always two, usually the Midwest and the East, but sometimes the South that are loaded. I it is based on the location of the Regional. If you place every traditionally good basketball program on a map, with the exception of a few west coast teams, you will find an epicenter somewhere between Louisville, Lexington, and Cincinnati (not that those are the best teams, but they are the geographic center of the group of the best teams). The two closest regionals to those locations, 4 out of 5 times will be loaded, and the other two relatively easy.

The exception is when Atlanta is a regional, as it's proximity throws off that balance.
