It doesn't matter how it happened, it can't be underscored that this conference already has a win over the Big 12 Champion in a Champion vs Champion BCS game.
That fact alone will never be something that the pundits won't have to address when talking about legitimacy. CUSA never got a foothold in the football perception battle.
Being the clear cut #6 conference is also something CUSA never was. It doesn't matter how or why, this conference is the linear successor to the Big East. The added exposure that has come with filling that inventory gap is HUGE!
Your arguments are missing those key facts.

CUSA never had a bcs football participant.. Nevermind one that holds a victory in the fiesta over the Big 12 champion

Our football history is still the lineage of Big East football.. That is the root, and as such still has a respectable record with the best.

As was said earlier, we are in the #6 spot. Where we've always been
CUSA was never that.

There is no such thing as football mid major. The reporter drew attention to that quote because he knew it was controversial and would draw chatter.

My understanding as well... That prick reporter saw a diamond "Controversial attention" and took off with it.

Since you're too lazy to do a simple google search I'll help you out. It is well known that AAC stands for Advanced Armament Corparation. Hope this helps! :)

As someone who followed the Big East closely, you'd be surprised how easily the rest of college football writes off wins but pounces on any and all loses. It is what it is.

My point was that it really wasn't accurate to compare the two leagues using BCS bowls as a metric. C-USA never had an automatic AQ bid and the league's best football years were spent prior to the non-AQ rule coming into effect. Those were two major handicaps that the American didn't have to deal with this past year.

My argument was that you were comparing apples and oranges. C-USA had to deal with challenges that the American thus far has not had to deal with.

Well, then we're definitely not mid-major. Unless you consider the Columbia College Fighting Koalas mid-major.

lol sounds like a personal problem to me. Call yourself what you will. I can't argue with such mental potency. You don't deserve a well thought out response.

Agree. Thanks for the well thought out response.

It would've been interesting to see what would've happened if that conference had been allowed to grow in that configuration.

Another word for "Mid-Major". 04-cheers

With all of this mid-major talk, maybe UC, UConn, ECU, Memphis, and others that actually want to be in a power conference and be a power school should just leave this POS conference. UC, UConn, and Memphis could certainly make more than $2M for TV rights on their own.

I would be for UC, UCONN, and Memphis leaving and forming their own conference. I would list the other schools I'd take from the AAC but I don't want people's feel goods to get hurt.

No. I'd like to see the other schools pull their weight. Specifically Temple.

How about you go try being Independent and then tell me if you still don't want to be associated with Temple.

How about Temple do something....

RE: What is the AAC?
At the beginning of the UCONN/UC game, Mike Patrick said that the American conference began as a marriage of necessity and now they are a "power conference." Then Seth Greenberg said that 8 months ago they didn't have a logo & now half their teams are a lock for the NCAA tournament.

The AAC has a lot to be proud of and it is a power conference in B-ball already which will help us get there in football (we're actually really close already).

It's definitely a power conference. How many mid-majors get the noon tipoff on ESPN after GameDay, then right after get the first CBS OTA game of the day at 2pm ET? This basketball league is going to be fun for a long time, Louisville will be missed, but still going to be alot of fun as the top programs continue their stride and other programs get better.

We just have to keep winning OOC games and perceptions will slowly change. I know that we will still be operating under a biased system but if you continue to smack someone in the mouth enough times then you will eventually get some attention. UCF's victory against Baylor was key. There's room in major college football for this new conference to grab some respect. It's obvious that the AAC is the 6th best football conference. Even if the 5 conferences that are ahead of us try to keep us out we as a collective conference can determine our own fate. If teams step up this year then we can ride the wave of momentum into the future.

This is where fans don't get it....we can win ALL of our OOC football games, all of our bowl games, and we are still G5...still locked out of the "auto bid" if you will (using old AQ wording). We do not have a tie in to a big time bowl for our winner...therefore we are mid majors REGARDLESS of what we actually do on the field.
