Exclamation Offensive staff flying to Baylor today...
Stephen ‏@coachsorrells
Offensive staff flying to Baylor today to talk ball with the Baylor coaches and watch practice. Looking forward to it. #UABFootball

Of course, the defense visited the Pittsburgh Steelers last year and...

Baylor will be an interesting team to study, as they are a fast paced, spread team that averaged 52 points a game in 2013. They are starting their spring practice pretty early though.

It's a style we can recruit to, one that a lot of high schools are already playing and the kids are familiar with. It's fun to watch.

Add in that we hired a defensive minded coach.

I like it, but glad the defensive staff isn't going to Baylor

High scoring offenses are fun to watch if you're winning... The second highest scoring team in the nation last year (Indiana) still had a losing record. I'd love to score a lot of points, but if you give me a choice between winning 3-0 and losing 55-51, I'll take the 3-0 game all day long.

I remember looking up at the score board and leaving thinking
"Who is Baylor? And what sucky conference are they in?"
Darn it!! Opportunities squandered by bitter old men!!

If we're going to play really fast, the defensive staff may want insight into how to handle having the defense on the field for 40 minutes.

JSU was in the post season last year so I am guessing the defensive staff has some sort of a clue what they are getting into. I'm worried more about who will settle in at QB.

My guess is the JC kid that started at Washington St seems to be the favorite since pat Thomas is not here(yet?). May have best combination of skill, athleticism, and experience(such as it is, i.e. post-HS games under center) for the spread...

They like Clements a lot! I'm sure McKee will get a fair shot too.

If McKee didn't do anything last year, I have a hard time seeing him as the solution this year. I could be way off base, but if he's our answer I'm going to be extremely worried about our season.

In their defense both McKee and Briscoe were injured last year(which probably puts them even further behind). Briscoe may not even be ready for Spring football.

The first 4-5 games will be important. After that, I think it will be Taz Wilson's job to lose. Wilson has no business being on our roster. He fell through the cracks because he transferred to Atlanta from Las Vegas right before the school year started.

I hope Taz becomes a great QB, but he will be a true freshman in 2014. True freshmen QBs are not usually ready for immediate impact in college.

Interesting to note that we went by air, not by ground.

I don't think he will be an impact player in 2014. And I hope the coaching staff can redshirt Wilson in 2014. But I think it will be tough to keep Taz Wilson off of the field.

RE: Offensive staff flying to Baylor today...
I suspect that FBHC McGee thought during the season that he was building for the 2014 season while accepting our losses in 2013. Now he is gone and the new staff must evaluate the remaining QBs from scratch this spring. I would think the coaches will want to reduce the number to 2 probables as quickly as possible. Since they have had a chance to actually see them throw during winter workouts, they may have a favorite for a starter already. We fans will just have to wait to see during spring practice.
