Is this what happened with Davis? (among other things)

When your basketball coach is telling people at local eateries that your dream job is not the one you got. That stuff gets back to the AD. Then you get sent to Texas...

I'll say it every time people will listen.
What's missing from basketball in this state is a rivalry match.
We need good old fashioned seats in bums. We need an instate rivalry. We need everyone in the state to be saying "did you see that game last night? If only we had hit that buzzer beater..." We need an iron bowl of basketball.
UAB and Alabama need to play a game in february each year. The two programs are close enough and closely enough matched that the games would sell out. It gets bums in seats and it gets people caring about it one way or another.
How much money, support, fandom, and attention does the UNC Duke game bring each year? Yeah, we won't be at that prominence immediately. But it'd be great for the longevity of basketball in this state.

That will never happen in Alabama. Most people in Alabama don't give a crap about basketball. It's hard wired in.
The North Carolina Duke series gets attention not because it is an in state rivalry but because people there care about basketball.
We have had a series with Auburn. It was not as successful as our memories want it to be. Do you know when it was most successful? When it was played the night before the Iron Bowl in Birmingham. In other words, it was successful when it was tied to football. And as a basketball fan, it was pretty disheartening to hear Auburn fans chant "we want Bama" even before the basketball game was over.
I've given up on basketball ever granting a speck of interest in Alabama year round. If anything it gets a little interest when the bowl games are done, when one of the SEC teams has a decent year, and drops off even before March Madness because spring training is getting started.
UAB playing North Carolina couldn't even get a full house. Ridiculous

What's missing in Alabama is a public following that rewards top BB recruits who come to this state - or STAY in this state - so that competing programs in BB supportive states can't recruit on the basis of "go to an Alabama school and be forgotten - come to UKY, UIN, Butler et al and be well known household names. I would bet that while there are many Alabamians who can name the third string "left out" of the two BCS FB teams, there are few who can name more than one starting BB player at either school.
UAB correctly fusses about the state's media ignoring our programs, but the BB programs of ALL state universities get the same treatment. I think most of the "press" about AU and UA BB teams is whether their coaches will be fired each year. Note that there have been no media articles about interviewing the top state players who went to play for BB known schools about why they left the state and if they are sorry or glad they left. Do you think they want to know the answers they might get?
BTW, The basketball article now has 17 comments (30@ 5pm 2/27/14) while the four football articles are listed as having 1,076, 1,051, 603 and 547 replies. Does that make a point about basketball interest in Alabama?

Has any school in the state of Alabama gotten past the second round of the NCAA's since 2004? I don't think any school has.
Also, I think Alabama's Elite 8 run is the farthest any school in the state has gone, also. I could be wrong; apologies if so.

Their elite 8 run wasn't any deeper than our elite 8 run.

The fact that you know about Alabama's elite 8 and not UAB's gives you away as to where your loyalties lie
Seriously man? My post was based solely on memory. You are making it into something it isn't.
To be completely honest, basketball season just gets me through so I can go hang out at Legion Field on Saturdays.

And ours was first by about 22 years
And the teams we beat to get there were pretty darn impressive with some players that went on to be big time in the NBA. Beat IU, beat Virginia, lost pretty close game to L'ville. That was a good team with a good tourney run that year.

You do realize that the round of 64 is the second round now, don't you?
I had to google that. Not kidding.
For years, I always thought the NCAA tournament was 64 teams. What exactly changed? SMH.
