We played bad the last two games because we haven't played anybody. I don't care who the coach is, these kids in the back of their minds figured they can just step out there and just win. Getting a team excited and pumped to play a team who has only win a handfull of games is hard.

I suspect if they get by Houston Thursday you'll see a different team come out and play next Saturday. Now if they play the way they have the last two games against Louisville, Cincinnati, and smu then I'll worry a lot more

I don't understand some of you guys. The team is playing great and playing as expected. Some of the weaker teams have nothing to lose. Temple jacked up threes and made several of them. UC mauled our guys and we didn't get the calls. You guys need to stop complaining and root for the Tigers. They are your team.

I use to live in Hog land and on their boards, if you complained about the Hogs like that some of you do against the Tigers, they would life time ban you.

I'm no hater, nor am I a sunshine pumper, so my opinion likely holds little value in this thread.

NCAA Sweet 16

AAC tournament result is irrelevant if we get that far. Anything less falls short of this season's expectations.

I guess some of us have different ideas of "playing great" and playing "as expected"

I don't think that this team is playing great at all nor playing as i, personally, expected.

When we have a team down, we need to bury them. Instead we have turn overs, ill-advised quick shots, missed FTs, we relax on defense, reach & foul, lose focus. We need to play a sustained, focused game throughout. We have some very good talent at every position that could go far in the tournament if we stay focused & play a full 40 mins.

So far..the disposition and body language of the players...being seniors...they've given nothing to indicate that they will make a run at anything...JJ has been a spark...but everyone else has been...average and statistics suggest the same.

I think we make semi's of conference and win first game and get a Iowa, Wisc, someone that will make us play half court and it will be over...ON TO A NEW CHAPTER....

I don't know that Dixon is any better than A. Barton...A. Barton was better spot up shooter and played hard.

Not really. This screams of fan who wants to take potshots at the current team- and infers that Dixon does not play hard.

The statistics do not support your point.

ABarton Minutes PTS RB Assist Steals Shooting% 3PT%
Jr year- 16.7 5.6 1.3 1.1 .8 .397 .400
So 21.9 6.6 2.3 1.6 .5 .482 .400
Fresh 24.6 8.2 2.5 1.7 .7 .463 .442

Dixon- 23.0 11.6 2.3 2.4 1.4 .475 .394

Looks like overall ABarton was a slightly better percentage 3 point shooter- and I am sure that will be the only point here. Dixon's steals and assists numbers belie the idea he played less hard- and his 11.2 average is much stronger than Barton's/

Sorry.

Try and enjoy Houston.

Barton's 3 pt percentage would have been slightly higher had his coach not called time out just before he shot a 3 pointer that went in for what would have been a game winning bucket a couple of days ago

Those are his Memphis only statistics.

Dixon is a better player. ABarton was a solid Tiger too.

Period.

I just think that chemistry wise..ABarton fit in better...to me there is a sharp contrast to the chemistry this year's team...that is all.

I think A Barton leaving played a part in that...

RE: For real honest from haters and sunshine pumpers
Speaking specifically to all the gloom about the close win against Temple (RPI 169)...

Syracuse lost to Boston College (RPI 184).
Florida beat North Florida (RPI 218) by a mere 8 points and Auburn (RPI 161) by only 5.
Kansas squeaked by Texas Tech (RPI 115) by 1 point.
Creighton barely beat Seton Hall (RPI 120) by 1 point.
The Dookies lost to Notre Dame (RPI 113).

Sometimes, good teams barely avoid losing to a less talented opponent, and occasionally, good teams lose to a conference cellar dweller. It happens.

It's what you do after having a bad game that counts.

I expect and believe we will win the AAC tourney. I cant wait for it, but I believe we can win out in the regular season too. I'm going to the AAC tournament, I'm looking forward to it. Great basketball.

My thinking as well.
What are the chances we get the same dufus refs who've boned us in league play this year in the AAC tourney?

Was just talking to a buddy at work who is a Louisville fan about this. We were talking about how Memphis killed Rutgers the first time, but won by 5 the next. Memphis beat Temple on road by 10 the first time, then by 3 in OT the next.He brought up that UL has one of the highest "margins of victory" in the country, but when they play a good team it's a close game or a loss for them.

He made the point that coming from the Big East where "every night was a dog fight" type game, UL as a team learned to bring it every night... so they beat Rutgers, Temple, UCF, etc by 20+ each time they play them.
Contrast this with Memphis who is coming from CUSA where "we could usually show up and win" type games, and that has carried over to how we play here. We get up for the "big" games and the first time we play someone, but after that we relax in the next game.

It's a "mindset" and a "standard" that teams have. Like Doris Burke pointed out earlier this season calling one of the Memphis games... we seem to go through the motions from time to time instead of ALWAYS getting back on D, we just do when we HAVE to. Stuff like that.

Our seniors have it in their minds that they can show up and win if it's not a "big" game, because they have been doing just that their entire careers. But we always seems to rise to the occasion and play pretty well in the "big" games.

So I agree what was said above, after the Houston game the rest of our games are against NCAA tourney teams. The team will HAVE to be playing at a focused/high level from here on out. This should only HELP them.

We have the toughest string of games coming up we have had in a while... the team is well aware of it and will play the best they can I'm sure.

Certainly a logical point, particularly with the mindset of the seniors that have been here 4 years, but I think it's a bit of a stretch to say it is all conference affiliated (insert example here of other former Big East schools not beating the weaker opponents by 20+ points). Considering Dixon, Pellom, and GJ were transfers and didn't spend their entire careers playing in CUSA, I'm thinking it's just more the personal discipline of the individual players. They were also small games the first time we played them, but we got up for them. They struggle with getting up for facing an opponent they already defeated handily the first go around. We did smash USF both times though. I guess we'll see with Houston.
