First-time poster....so proud. Love the Tigers here in Michigan!! I have watched every game available to me and I gotta say, what is the deal with the empty seats behind the Tigers bench, game after freakin' game??? You watch Duke, Michigan, Michigan State, and several others, it looks like there are fans actually passionate about the team, as they are jumping up and down behind the team's bench. Just my opinion, but all I see are bluehaired boosters who show up when they feel like it. Tigers fans love the team, but if you turn on a game in, say, Montana, you'd think no one cares..............

GO TIGERS!!!!

Bigger games, seats are full. Smaller games, seats are empty. But it's not just us. I've watched many Louisville, North Carolina, and even Kentucky games where there were many empty seats down low because of the smaller type game. About the only teams I've seen consistently fill every seat regardless of who they're playing is Kansas and Duke.

The seats closest behind the Tigers bench are university reserved for guests as far as I know.

Because of donation levels required to buy seats in the lower bowl, there are a number of corporate ticket purchases, with tickets given to employees and customers.

Some games are lower demand and those seats go unused.

People who shell out personally to sit there are usually there (though the upper deck season ticket holders are faithful too)

It is frustrating to see empty lowers, and there can be an enthusiasm gap at times, but it comes from an economic choice that has been made. Louisville is one example of a pretty similar situation.

Empty sets are a concern. Hopefully, the $5 tickets are helping.

And the SMU game also. I am wondering which banned poster is reincarnated as the op.

Who knows, maybe someone related to the owner who runs the female fashion shop Hoot+Louise or someone who knows someone who work at Hooters or maybe he or she is actually a new poster. Who knows.

If you hang around the outside box office long enough, you may get lucky with someone wanting to give away tickets for free - - just wanting the tickets not go to waste and a Tiger fan is using it.

RE: Memphis Tigers Crowd
I assure you, I'm not a troll. Been visiting this site for some time and love all of the interplay--pro and con--which goes on. I only recently decided to log in as a poster, after being on Memphis Roar for a few years.

I live in upper Michigan; in fact, the hometown of Tom Izzo. My brother and Tom graduated high school together, so I've known him forever. I just happen to hate Michigan State! Always been a Michigan backer, until about 6-7 years ago, when I caught Tiger fever from having taken several trips to Memphis as an Elvis fan. My favorite all-time Tiger win is probably the dismantling the Tigers gave Sparty in the NCAA with D. Rose's bunch. NO ONE in this town believed the Tigers would beat State, because they had no clue as to the talent level they were about to see. It was a very satisfying day at the office the Monday following that game.

Anyway, I didn't mean to come off sounding negative/critical on my first post. As I said, I have watched about 90% of the Tigers games over the past several years. My wife, boys and I know when they play, and make a date with the television to watch. I just know that ever getting to a game in person will take an act of Congress, so seeing empty seats so visible on television is a bit disheartening to a guy who'd LOVE to sit there just one time.

Seriously....GO TIGERS!!!!! :)

It was a great crowd on Saturday - at least 15k in actual attendance i'd say - but for some reason those low seats were empty. Oh well.

Ok. You just convinced me that you're not a troll. But it was a suspicious first post. In any event, welcome! I was at that game in Houston, surrounded by green. It was priceless to watch them go from trash talking us to absolute stunned silence in a matter of minutes.

Yay!! Great to be a part of the board. Tiring hearing nothing but Big Ten talk all the time here. I have only a working knowledge of the full history of Memphis basketball, but since the mid-2000's I know my share.

I did attend the trail end of the Marshall game in January, 2011, when I visited during a St. Jude radio seminar. My wife and I hurried to the FedEx Forum and caught the final 2 minutes from the upper deck, and had our pics taken with Preston Laird, Drew Barham, Will Coleman and D.J. Stephens.
