SMU playing well early. I'm the refs won't let that that stand for long. Waiting for the epic home cooking to kick in.

LOL SMU has assistant coach doing halftime interview. Maybe Memphis should follow suit.

Good question. Actually depends on who wins the remaining games, but right now, I'd say we should root for SMU. We're all going to be in the top 5 in the conference, but SMU has more chances left for losses, so if they beat UConn, it could help us climb over UConn for the 3rd conference tourney seed, at least.

3 way tie for 3rd if UConn wins. Need to get the 3 seed as we would play UConn again if we finish 4th or 5th.

So you're saying you want UConn to win? If you play out the remaining games, assuming holding home court and not losing to bottom seeds, we would tie UConn and lose on head to head, so we need them to lose. SMU is going to lose more remaining games.

RE: UConn/SMU
Maybe this will help:

Current American Standings

TEAM CONF OVERALL
Cincinnati 13-2 24-4
Louisville 12-2 23-4
Southern Meth. 10-4 21-6
Memphis Tigers 10-4 21-6
Connecticut 9-4 21-5

Let's assume (I know, lol) that the top 5 teams hold home court, and have no WTF losses with the bottom 5, like we almost had last night.

Final standings would look like this:

TEAM CONF OVERALL
Cincinnati 15-3 26-5
Louisville 14-4 25-6
Connecticut 13-5 25-6
Memphis Tigers 13-5 24-7
Southern Meth. 12-6 23-8

That assumes we go 3-1 in our last 4, winning AT Houston, beating Louisville and SMU at home, and losing AT Cincy. So, even at 3-1, we only finish as the 4 seed, and still likely play SMU in the 4-5 game, followed by a date with Cincy, and then likely the winner of UL-UConn, if we win through.

Let's say we LOSE ALL 4 remaining regular season games. We'll still be the 5 seed, b/c the bottom 5 all have 9 losses or more, and we would be 10-8.

Bottom line is that NO MATTER how we play our last 4 games, we will be the 4 or 5 seed in our first game.

UNLESS we win out. Then we would be the TWO SEED, and have an easier first game. But we would likely beat SMU at home, anyway, and still have to play 2 of the other 3 top teams from that point.

BOTTOM LINE is, it really doesn't matter how we play the last 4 regular season games, as far as what our seed is, and chances are, in the conference tourney.

Other than losing at Houston next Thursday, there aren't any possible bad losses left, so going into the conference tourney, the last 3 don't matter that much. How we play the top teams in the conference tourney will likely have the biggest impact on our NCAA seeding.

We just need to beat Houston on Thursday. From that point, we have nothing to lose, and we'll see how far we can go. There just isn't as much pressure as I thought, going into the end of the season. I like that. Speaks to the virtues of playing in a much better conference.

It is likely BETTER for our seeding if SMU wins. That's what I'm trying to explain to ncrdblwhatever.

But bottom line is, it doesn't really matter. We'll be one of the top 5 seeds regardless. SMU will likely be in the 4-5 with us, and we should beat them at home, and still have to deal with 2 of the remaining 3 top teams.

But if UConn loses today, we have a better chance of climbing over both of them for the 3 seed, given the way the remaining games likely play out.

If SMU wins, will that put them in the top 25? Will losing to SMU take UConn out of the top 25?

Never said that. All i said is that there would be a three way tie for third if UConn won. Other than that no matter which one wins we need to get out of the 4/5 slot. Did not say i prefer either of them in this game. If i had to i would prefer SMU as we would move ahead of UConn and have a chance to go head to head with SMU later this season.

sweet, even more reason to root for SMU.

I'm for SMU just because of 36 - 9. Plus, as TripleA pointed out, it could ultimately lead to the TIGERS getting the 3rd seed in the AAC tourney in a few weeks.

Go 'Stangs.
