0-5 already to start the season, i know we are playing tough opponents, but Gernon should be on the hot seat. i never liked him as a candidate, until we invest in the program and get a legit head coach. we wont win a MAC championship. maybe the reason why he still has a job is because Monty porters kid is on the team?

Could you guys imagine how different things would be if we still hosted the CWS?

In Gernons defense admin doesnt care about baseball. He is working on no contract or 1 year contracts. CRAZY!

RE: Bronco Baseball
I really like Gernon personally. That said, the results show that he isn't making much progress.

That said, I believe jubba is probably right on the money with this one. I don't think that anyone REALLY cares about the baseball program and its success.

What frustrates me is that this area really is a hot bed for baseball talent. Teams from our area regularly go to or win state titles. Where are all of these players going?

The other issue that WMU will always have is that we are a cold weather site. Schools from the south are always going to have an advantage simply because they can be outside 300 days a year. We have to share an indoor facility with other programs. And have a football coach that orders janitors to cut down the baseball nets when recruits come in (true story).

Fred Decker was probably allowed to stick around 10 years too long. And since then baseball has been an afterthought to many. I don't see much changing regardless of who is coaching the team.

I don't understand this at all. Basically a lame duck contract situation. Assistants are not paid well either.

Of course...they just beat the #7 team in the nation.

I do wonder about the local talent going elsewhere.

It starts with pitching. Get the studs and you can overcome a lot of issues.

Gernon's a great guy, who may be a good coach. Unfortunately, as stated above, the admin doesn't care. Gernon coaches his son's 10 year old travel ball team, for crying out loud. If the admin applied some pressure, I doubt he would find time to coach little leaguers and focus on the Broncos.

Baseball and hockey are two sports where on any given day, anything can happen.

This doesn't bother me. Perception is everything at times. No doubt in my mind Fleck pays attention to every single detail when it comes to recruits.

I really think its a non issue.

It's an issue if they literally "cut" them down, as in damaged them, on Fleck's orders.

RE: Bronco Baseball
That's how I interpreted it, that they damaged the nets bringing them down.

If they just took them down, then it is a non-issue.

If someone "cut" them down...that's absolutely ridiculous. They aren't permanent structures.

I feel like the word "cut" is being mis-used.

Anyone shed light onto the matter?

Sure, I will shed some light on the matter. As I have been told from people a lot closer to the situation than me.

Last year Fleck had a recruit or recruits coming in for a visit. The baseball nets were down at the Seelye and apparently a motor was not working to pull one of them back up and out of the way. Fleck ordered the janitor to cut the lines and cut the nets down.

Again, I didn't witness this first hand, but I have heard the same story from multiple sources closer than myself.

Sorry, but to me that just shows when someone thinks they are above everyone else and everything else.

I wonder how many other FBS coaches would have done the same thing? MAC coaches?

FYI...if the motor is broke on those things, you don't replace it, you buy a whole new setup. Kind of moots the point about destroying property IMO.

This still doesn't bother me. We pay the guy 400k per year to win football games. IF he thinks we need to present our facilities a certain way to gain an edge with recruits, then so be it.

It bothers me more that we went 1-11 last year.

It bothers me that the dude thinks and is apparently treated like he can walk on water......yet I'm not sure he can coach a lick.

RE: Bronco Baseball
If this is true PJ better have paid out of his own pocket to replace the netting.

And it definitely speaks negatively about his attitude, self-awareness, being a "Team player" in athletic department.
