Harvard Feminist Says Academic Freedom Fosters “Racism, Sexism, And Heterosexism”…
And So It Should Be Abolished

A Harvard University feminist student writing in the campus newspaperThe Crimson recently posited this:

“If our university community opposes racism, sexism, and heterosexism, why should we put up with research that counters our goals simply in the name of “academic freedom”?

The column was titled “The Doctrine of Academic Freedom – Let’s Give Up On Academic Freedom in Favor of Justice.”

Its author, senior Sandra Y.L. Korn, a joint history of science and studies of women, gender and sexuality major, called for the end of academic freedom and in its place “a more rigorous standard: one of ‘academic justice.’”

“When an academic community observes research promoting or justifying oppression, it should ensure that this research does not continue,” she wrote. “The power to enforce academic justice comes from students, faculty, and workers organizing together to make our universities look as we want them to do.”

Well, I guess this shows that even at Harvard, they're still just young and dumb. Nothing quite like quashing freedom of speech..................for the cause of course!

The majority of Harvard will probably never hear about this.

Because that's the point of a University?

In El Paso my neighbor was a Harvard graduate and lawyer. Nice enough guy, but liberal beyond reason. Must be something in the water.

I'd agree and have heard the same thing. Getting in IS the hard part. My friend that got in basically had a professor tell her that. As long as they at least try they'll get a "C" and graduate.

When I was at Harvard Business School, we joked that the Charles River is not only a physical but also a ideological moat separating the Business School from the rest of the university. The Business School is in Boston, not Cambridge, and the ideology is strongly conservative and free market oriented. I can't recall one liberal leaning student in my class.

Liberals oppose diversity of thought and opinion.

I've wanted to visit Boston. I have a cousin at Harvard now doing some kind of doctoral dentistry work. I need to take her up on her offer to visit.
