I guess that someone is Darell Combs!
BTW, CMU visits Wed. So this must be rivalry week.

If we lose, one only needs to look at FT shooting again. 8/18 right now. Awful.

Yep. We can't hit. Western can't miss.

Well, good effort to get back in the game. Tough to beat teams when they make their free throws, and we don't. Hopefully Combs plays like this come tourney time. He was great today.

NIU loses to CMU today, EMU stays #6 seed in the MAC at this point heading into three home games against CMU, NIU and Ball State. I don't think that's exactly what we were all thinking with this team but when you can't make FT's, you're mediocre at best.

I don't want to sound like I'm giving up, but once it has been determined we won't be in the top 4, there isn't much advantage between #5, #6, #7, and #8. All host the first round.
The bad thing about the MAC tourney is that teams ranked #5 - #12 would need to win FIVE GAMES to win the tourney. The four winners of these games play before joining the #3 and #4 seeds in the quarterfinals.
Teams ranked #3 and 4 need to win THREE GAMES.
Teams ranked #1 and #2 need to win TWO GAMES.
IMHO: Giving the top two teams a bye to the semis is too much.

I live in Battle Creek so I look forward to the EMU vs WMU basketball game when it's played in Kalamazoo (short drive). During warm ups the team appeared uninspired The team woke up in second with 3's from Combs and defensively but someone tell me where Ward's offensive has gone.

Good Question, wish I know. He only took 5 shots all day. EMU has no go to guy. Combs stepped up today but has been inconsistent all year. EMU's offense could snooze you to sleep in a hurry

Another .500 season in the making, I appreciate Murphy getting us off the rock bottom of the MAC, but when are we going to see something above .500 seasons from his staff and him?

Underachieving team. Out strategized by opponents. Dependence on JUCOs and transfers w/o a strong recruiting presence in MI. Defensive guru.
Are Murphy and RE the same guy?

Except RE had a miserable record. I have my qualms with Murphy, but at least we aren't the laughingstock of D1 basketball, like RE made us in football.
I might be the only person here that wasn't mad about yesterday. WMU is a good team playing strong basketball right now. It was gonna be tough to win there no matter what the result was on our floor. It was nice to see this team fight its way back into the game after it looked like we were about to be blown out.
If we win 3 of our last 4, I'll be ok going into the MAC tourney. We've underachieved, but at least we know we can give anyone in this league hell in the tournament, and will be a tough out.

Dear Friends,
I did not listen to the game, but looking at the box score, I can't believe Western got 44 free throws and we only got 18? I just can't believe we would be called for two and a half more fouls than Western. That was the difference in the game. They got almost half of their points off of the free throws. Anyone see the game and have any comment about the discrepancy in the number of fouls called?

The big detriment that we have this year compared to the recent past is how good the top of the MAC West has become.
In Murphy's first year he competed against a MAC West which was very weak and conference scheduled were 'unbalanced'. Wasn't it 10 division games and six crossovers?

We're a much, much better than years ago but it doesn't show in the record...
