That's mild compared to some of the screw ups here. Not fulfilling contracted agreements, using the wrong logos etc

We have IMG and they don't do a bad job. I work with them on our bank's marketing package with Marshall ( which is rather sizable, about $90,000 a year). The thing to keep in mind is that the contract with IMG varies by school. Some contract for more, some for less. At Marshall IMG is primarily the advertising arm. They guarantee the school a fixed amount plus overage depending on how successful they are selling. Marshall still maintains certain marketing/promotional responsibilities.

IMG has been good for Marshall. They paid for our new video boards at the stadium and all the ribbon boards for football and basketball. Of course this is also for their benefit because they can push more advertising through them, but it was still nice upgrades. What it really comes down to is how good you local IMG folks are. They maintain a staff of 5-6 at Marshall plus hire students and use interns for events. We're lucky enough that the staff here hasn't turned over much. At smaller schools like us you usually have a new staff every couple years.

reading the UTEP story the OP poster....sounded like a lazy IMG College account executive just didn't feel like being thorough and professional with the responsibility of fulfilling the job he was tasked with....ie....dropping off those flyers at all locations/the chain's corporate headquarters, etc.....

ECU has been with ISP/IMG since Terry Holland first arrived back in '05ish. Before then, everything was done "in house".

The only thing I like about IMG is our coaches show. Don't know what else they do but our marketing department could use a boost .

Atleast, they don't fail basic math, read the story, LOLZ. Good luck getting 60k in 12k arena.

We use IMG.

They just let App State outbid them for radio rights on the station we are currently on.

Aside from that, they've done a pretty good job I think.

They cover radio broadcasts (great job), coaches show (if not a baseball show, we need a spring sports show), andI think they collab with WITN on the local broadcasts (shitty). Outside of that I dunno.

Rice has IMG and, from what I recently heard, it isn't going so well. Something about the contract keeps Rice from freely pursuing certain corporate sponsors. If I'm wrong, I'm sure a well-connected Rice alum would love to correct me.

I don't know what IMG does for us besides coaches shows and games but they seem to be well produced

I'm guessing they represent your athletic dept's marketing and media interests to sponsors. they sell the ad space inside the football stadium/on the scoreboards/ribbon boards/at all sports facilities.....they set up hospitality stuff.....they sell the radio time during your in game broadcasts on your radio network. they do all sorts of marketing and media stuff.

could be something about exclusivity within certain product categories......I mean all of your marketing and media rights are turned over to IMG I'm guessing.....so if IMG goes out and gets a 5 year deal with Verizon Wireless on a comprehensive package....a marketing guy in your athletic department can't himself sell AT&T a similar deal for example.......or perhaps certain categories are strictly off limits?

That sounds about right. I think the new AD wants to have more freedom in going after corporate sponsors. He feels that his hands are a tied and may be thinking about a "buy out."

I wish they would have kept Keith Morehouse on board but they changed a lot over and now we are with WVAH TV instead of WSAZ. Keith is Marshall. Not having him involved sucks and never should have been allowed. Other than that they have been great.

yeah that's understandable....that's the way IMG rolls...you outsource all of your rights to them......it all falls on them......your school gets a yearly guarantee and don't have to worry about selling.......
