This says mid 2019...mid?

http://collegefootballtalk.nbcsports.com...-mid-2019/

"On Friday NIU announced a contract extension for Carey that will have him lined up to lead the program through June 30, 2019."
"Carey will be paid between $400,000 and $513,000 in 2014."

My guess is that the football season would be over at the beginning of 2019, and it would allow the school to begin the search for a new Coach. Then again... it's just a guess.

I am thinking it keeps him under contract after the bowl season when most hiring happens...and thru signing day and spring football. So hopefully Frazier put in a smart buyout that didn't decrease like the last extension our old AD did with our last coach.

The school's fiscal year probably runs July through June.

Carey Contract Extended
I don't see the rush to get this done until we see if he can recruit. He was under contract till June of 2018. If he is great for 3 more years he will be gone, if he is not great we most likely would want someone new. I don't care who the coach is, it just doesn't make financial sense.

RE: Carey Contract Extended
Quote:Carey was paid a total of $376,000 last season. According to a statement by the school, Carey will be among the top half of the highest paid coaches in the MAC. Going off of last season’s coaching salary numbers, that would mean Carey will be paid between $400,000 and $513,000 in 2014.

We've been one of the top MAC football programs for several years now. My guess is he got a slight bump (just over $400k) to put him in the top half of the MAC which is reasonable.

At the same time I'm far from 100% sold, based on some of his in-game decision making. I'll put my trust in Frazier here.

You guys are awfully concerned about a guy who will probably get recruited next year to go somewhere else.. We always talk about having a coach call niu home like the former Boise st coach.. so what wrong with a pay bump?

RE: Carey Contract Extended
Putting it into perspective, we bumped him up maybe what $50K more a year at most. He still isn't highest paid in the MAC. I think this is Frazier saying if you keep us near the top of the league and win you get raises. I have no problem with that. We still won 12 games this year and beat two BIG team so I think a small bump is warranted. Money aside, I would be much more interested to know what type of buyout exists and if that changed at all with the extension.

RE: Carey Contract Extended
Carey is being extended when there is a better than likely chance that we have a worse season next year. I know he can win when he has the best offensive and defensive players, in the conference. I think you could've waited till after next season. Frazier must have really wanted this because it might not be as popular next year. I think Montgomery probably has proved himself more than Carey, so far.

He had Jimmie Ward and nothing else. And Khalil Mack was the best defensive player in the conference.

And as far as Monty proving himself more...that comparison holds no weight due to time on the job. Carey has had one full recruiting season so far. Monty is in his third year and is finally eeking out wins against some crappy MAC teams. I think things are looking great for basketball but those two situations aren't worth comparing due to their massive differences as far as I'm concerned.

Montgomery just knocked off a top 68 NATIONAL team and one of the best defensive teams in the nation in EMU, get your facts straight, it makes it so much more enjoyable for everyone else.

And we were bad on defense, in ftball. Armour thanks for pointing it. After one year there is no reason to extend Carey. Monty whether you think he is a good coach or not, you have something to base it on. I am not against Carey, it just didn't seem like a priority. Why not see what happens without Lynch and many other seniors.

Ward was a all-American, I would say that's pretty good. And yes, I know K. Mac was a all-American. We can call Ward the second best player

RE: Carey Contract Extended
I'm not sure why an extension was necessary at this point either. There are benefits though. Obviously you can assure recruits that the head coach will be here if they sign...and the salary is probably still well below what it should be now for an extra year. They may have wanted to increase the buyout and giving Carey another year was one way to draw up a new contract.

I actually think Frazier knows what he's doing so I have no problem with it. If Compher had done this I would've been more confused.
