Question from an MT fan
I am thinking about coming down for our game in a couple weeks and I am considering making a long weekend of it. I have never really "been" to Birmingham. I have only driven through. So what are the must see things to do and places to eat?

I am looking forward to the game and experiencing the atmosphere at your arena. It should be another battle.

You'll probably find this thread helpful.

http://csnbbs.com/thread-45191.html

It's a little dated, but if you have any questions about specifics, somebody should be able to help you out.

RE: Question from an MT fan
If you look at the top of the thread, there is a "Blazertalk Guide To Bham" thread.

I'm sure some will post here as well.

RE: Question from an MT fan
Since the Basketball game is on a Thursday night and then a 3-game weekend series starting on Friday with MT on the diamond as well, you definitely have to check out Regions Field for a game or two. 2 birds with one stone!! Restaurants and Hotels should be in the thread provided above.

On your way down or up I-65, stop at Top Hat Barbecue in Blount Springs. Trust me, it's worth the detour.

Yes it is. Excellent choice. Just don't go looking for beer with your Barbecue... Dry County. But well worth the stop.

Family coming? Kids? Beer-drinker? Allergies? Social Security number? Blood type? Just a few things we'll need to point you in the right direction...

Hope you enjoy your visit to Birmingham...Just not too much...;-) Take in the good food and the rustic atmosphere, but you can't have the win at Bartow!

The large beer store in Warrior sells solo cups BTW. And there are 4 or 5 good place for a picnic along the creek.

That would be Wayne's Package Store.

You made me look it up. County Line fuels is the one i was trying to think of. They have the beer cave.

RE: Question from an MT fan
County Line Fuels? That must be new. Well, built within the last 17 years, which is when I last spent any regular time in Warrior.

Wayne's Package Store is the red building at the Warrior exit that also takes you to Cane Creek.

I *think* that the filling station part of the store is called Fuelz, and they have lotsa beer. They also have a package store directly adjoining.

My ambition in life is to own the County Line Liquor store at the edge of a dry county, and if it is on a state line and sells lottery tickets to the non-lottery state next door all my dreams will come true.

RE: Question from an MT fan
Thanks for all the recommendations! We are considering staying at the Doubletree on 20th or Hotel Highland on 20th. Are these Hotels a good idea? It looks to be a short walk to the arena from the map. Are there many restaurants in the area? It will just be my wife and I. We are in our late 20's/early 30's and like a laid back place to have a few drinks.

Also, can I get a cheap ticket at the arena, or do I need to go through our ticket office to make sure I get a ticket?

I think both would be good places to stay. Hotel Highland puts you in the middle of 5 points so you'll have a good number of restaurant/bar options.

You should just be able to get a ticket at the arena.

Doubletree is down the hill from the 5points eateries/bars ( couple of blocks ) and the Hotel Highland is closer to them. But, the arena is about 8 blocks level walk from the Doubletree and about 10 from the Hotel Highland. Id suggest that you plan on driving down to the arena for the game unless you really like to walk.

Yeah, only if you like walking. I used to make that walk from near the Doubletree nearly every day when I was a student, so it's not too bad. Parking for games is easy and free though.

If I were staying there my personal go-to's would be the J Clyde, Black Market, Surin West, and Jim 'N Nicks.
