early in the year I was upset with Guyn's playing but he's become a key player in the bearcats rise towards the top. A great clutch shooter lately. Happy with his defense too. Go Cats!!!!!!

RE: New Column: Guyn Boosts Numbers After Looking At Stats
Guyn, Sanders, Thomas, Caupain, Johnson, and Lawrence are the keys to a conference championship and a deep run in March. They will be the players Mick counts on next season to provide leadership.
Out of that group, Guyn, Caupain, Sanders, and Thomas will be the guys this season that determine our fate. I can't see Lawrence or Johnson getting major minutes in the second half of a close game. Four trouble might force Lawrence out on the floor but thats not a good situation for the Cats.
Next season, I expect Guyn to move to shooting guard with Troy taking over the point guard duties.

I don't think you will see Guyn much at the 2 next year. Caupain can't play the point 40 minutes a game.

I think Caupain is more than capable at running the point the majority of the time as a sophomore. He did so pretty well in early in the season but has hit the freshman wall of late.

RE: New Column: Guyn Boosts Numbers After Looking At Stats
G plays point guard for us, but he really isn't a point guard with the way he plays. When he does bring the ball up, he often times hands it off immediately. And he hasn't even been bringing the ball up much recently. We are lucky to have SK who initiates a ton of our offense and has done so this year with remarkable efficiency (he ranks 3rd in the country in O-Rating for players that use at least 28% of their teams possessions).
G rarely attacks or probes the defense. He is mostly a spot up shooter or someone that will take advantage of someone else creating for him. He is essentially a shooting guard in thy system we play now.
When Troy is on the bench and G is asked to run point next year without SK there to handle the offensive burden he is carrying this year, its going to be important for our team to have other creators, whether it be KJ, Morman, Shaq or a new recruit. Because that simply isn't G's game at all. Just for emphasis, G has an assist rate of 9.3% this year. That is lower than everyone else on the team besides Lawrence and Nyarsuk and doesn't hold a candle to Troy at 23.2% and SK 19.4%.
He might be called a point guard. But he doesn't play one. Not this year. And I don't see that changing next year.

i think Guyn, Shaq and Lawrence start. i imagine Sanders and Caupain to be first off the bench at the 3 and 1 positions. Where Morman, Strickland and KJ fit with the Froshes and DeBerry is really a toss up imo. Three things to keep in mind, i think Caupain plays more minutes than Guyn even with Guyn as the starter. Second, if i had to guess the five position, i would say that it goes to DeBerry because he's been able to develop while Strickland has been sidelined. That being said, i think DeBerry and strickland split mins pretty evenly. Finally, i think Gary Clark plays more minutes than Sanders even though Sanders will be the first to spell Shaq off the bench.

This is all spot on. Guyn is clearly more of an off-the-ball player. I definitely see him starting at the 2, with Troy running the show.

Yeah I honestly don't know what will happen next year. My inclination is that with the offseason, Troy will lock down the starting point guard spot, but I could see Guyn getting the nod as the senior. Who starts isn't all that important anyway. Whoever plays better will get the most minutes, as we have seen this year. Troy was starting to take more and more of the minutes until his recent stretch of poor play.
But even if Guyn gets the start, it will be important to realize that he doesn't really get the offensive started or set other people up in spots to score. He is very much an off guard in his style of play.
It seems way too early to project a starting lineup next year anyway. We don't even know what the final roster will look like.
