Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM) are calling for homosexual people in the country to be given the death penalty.

This suggestion comes at a time as some Civil Society Organisations (CSO) are pushing for the country to abolish the statute that penalise the act. Currently the maximum jail term sentence for those found guilty by the courts is 14 years.

In what will be viewed as stirring up hatred on the grounds of sexual orientation, MAM Secretary General Dr Salmin Omar Idrussi is advancing that homosexuality should remain criminalised and the maximum sentence should be pegged at death.

“Although Malawi is regarded as a secular state but the country is blessed with God fearing citizens who can’t afford to deviate from God’s commandments for the sake of pleasing others who practice the act,’’ Idrussi is quoted by malawimuslims.com an official website for Malawi Muslims.

‘‘Even animals like goats don’t do this, what more with human beings like us who were blessed with wisdom by the Almighty God? The offenders need to be handed death penalty as a way of making sure that the issue is curbed.”

Idruss argues that capital punishment was the only way to rid society of homosexuality.

Obama has a 5 year deal with Malawi where he gives them $350 million US taxpayer dollars. I don't know what we get in return.

Malawi isn't a Muslim nation so this really isn't a big deal.

Uganda has people dying of AIDS in droves. I don't agree with their law, but at some point I guess the people have to do something. I bet if 10% of our population died of DUI, it alcohol would be banned with a near capital punishment.

Your explanation is correct, I'd think. Uganda is a third-world country still, so a law like this really isn't earth-shattering. I guess the point is those in undeveloped parts of the world are still... living in the past.

The real danger in Malawi is NOT from the Muslims there, who constitute a small portion of the population. It is from the fundamentalist "Christians" there, and their American paymasters, who have actually tried to propose additional criminal penalties for being Gay, have actually arrested, jailed, and beaten Gay persons for being Gay, and who support Malawi's current legislation criminalizing Gay persons.

But Malawi isn't nearly as bad as Nigeria, where a draconian bill has just been enacted to ban all freedom of petition, protest, RELIGION, press, speech, assembly, expression, and due process for LGBT Nigerians. The Nigerian Bill has been cheerled/enabled/supported by American fundamentalists like Liberty University Law Dean Mat Staver, as well as the World Congress of Families (supported financially by the Family Research Council, Focus on the Family, and many other AMERICAN fundamentalists).

In Uganda, the situation is similar.

In Cameroon, the situation is similar.

In Russia, the situation is similar.

Islamic sharia is troubling. But the big problem with violence, criminalization, and state sponsored torture is coming from Christianity at this point. And those massive violations of very BASIC human rights are enabled by American Fundamentalists.

While I cannot find any direct support by Tony Perkins supporting the legislation in Malawi, he does

1) Oppose (to the point of spending thousands of dollars lobbying to do so) a US Senate Resolution simply stating that countries shouldn't execute of jail persons simply because they are gay.

2) Has been listed as a sponsor of the World Congress of Families, where these types of bills are supported and promoted

3) Continues to employ Peter Sprigg, who publically advocates criminalizing all Gay persons in the UNITED STATES.

Its obvious that the Family Research Council supports jailing persons for the 'crime' of existing.

Ugandan, Malawian, and Nigerian advocates of human rights abuses cannot survive financially without the financial support coming from the West. That's not a secret.

But if it makes you feel any better, lets do the following in our laws in the USA

1) Make it a felony to donate to groups advocating criminalization of being Gay, like the US does with Hamas. Enforce it equally between Muslims and Christians.

In a country that locks up and now wants to kill gays, I'd imagine most AIDS victims proudly say they're junkies. Like Iran, this country probably has no gay population.
