Owls out of the 6th with no damage, and Byrd draws a leadoff walk in T7!

"Luke".

Hope it catches on!

So you are saying light saber instead of blaster...check!

With all due respect to our original Jedi, Janish...

I always thought A. Rendon has some Jedi in him as well...

Janikan was special. The Force was strong with that one.

In true Rice fashion, how about "Bob"?

Worked pretty well for the last guy.

Looks like it is going from bad to worse.

I have not followed the fall ball too closely. Are Dittman and Lemond our only solid relievers.

Surprised that wasn't a closer play on the SF on the short/medium fly ball, given Williamson's arm. Seemed he didn't get any momentum coming forward with the catch and throw.

Wouldn't be a CA trip without one game like this. Good to get some looks at and experience for multiple pitchers at least.

And part of me is happy that Coach Graham gets to win his 1000th at home now. Stanford was talking about how much more experienced we were than they were, but we threw five 1st and 2nd-year pitchers today. Some of those guys will play big roles for us this season so it was an important game in that respect.

Not exactly a great way to finish. Hopefully the guys who pitched today can work out their issues quickly because we are going to need them in the long haul.

BUT, all in all, it was a successful weekend out in California.

+1. Absolutely picture perfect day for baseball. Disappointing outcome to what was a very successful weekend, as we won our first series in California since our 2003 national championship season...and that includes subsequent series against San Jose State, Cal St.-Fullerton, Long Beach State, Cal-Poly, the AT&T tourney (vs. LBSU, Cal and UC-SB) and our last two trips to Stanford in 2010 and 2012. And if we're going to lose, might as well do in a laugher rather than a tight game.

Though McCanna tired in the 5th inning (he was already up to 83 pitches when the inning started; more than he had pitched in any intrasquad game), at least from my vantage point, he looked the best I've seen him at Rice. Hopefully, he finally turned a corner, and I know The OG has been very pleased with his progress this year. As for McCarthy and Duplantier, it's just one game, and I wouldn't put too much stock in it. Games such as today happens; even to the best of them...and both of these guys have looked good in intrasquads against our quality offense.

I also agree with FBO comment that at least part of me is happy that The OG gets to reach the 1000 win milestone at home in front of 3,000+ adoring fans at The Reck. It's good for both Coach and the Rice faithful...and I fortuitously planned to continue my travels to Houston for all of this coming week to ensure I get to see The OG get that 1000th win at Rice, and his due. Should be both fun and emotional.

Safe travels, all, back to Houston or whereever.

The Owls ran into someone familiar at the SF Airport.

Hopefully there will be an effort to get the students out for "Game 1000". I also think there could me a marketing push Monday particularly.
