I Think Now It Might be Clear ...
I have been asked many times to explain why I stopped offciating at this level several years ago. I've have told of a single incident of interference by conference adinistrators and was pretty much discounted on this board by some who, although never having offciated a D1 game, said I was either lying or .. just looking for attention. That's fine - everyone is entitled to be completely incorrect.

I have to think that today's game in Hartford should illustrate my point clearly. There is an agenda brought on to the court and, it has to do very much with politics and money.

If there's anyone on the forum who really believes the Tigers had a chance to win this game after seeing what you saw ... well, Put your head back in the sand. 03-lmfao

Enjoy the NCAA Rah-rah-sis-boom-bah! 04-cheers

We certainly had a chance- in spite of the hideous officiating- but yes- our kids were required to do way too much- as point after point was gifted to the home team.

I am pissed at the large number of fouls called on Memphis vs the # called on Conn.
But, why would there be an agenda to help Conn win today's game?

serious or sarcasm?

Conn has same conf record that we do. why are they not undefeated if espn has an agenda to have refs help them in games?

I think we all can agree that their guards can shoot the damn lights out. If they receive just a little favoritism in officiating, they would be undefeated or close to it.

Northeastern Team
TV market share
UConn has been struggling on the fringes of the the top 25 all year
Old Blue-Blood Big East vs. CUSA party-crashers
Conference tournament seeding
Look for ref ties to UConn (haven't looked but that DOES happen)
Coaches blackballing of refs (we don't have the pull that UConn does at this time.

... I could go on but I think you get the idea 04-cheers

Edsall, the ref from today's game, is Randy Edsall's brother.

Other than that, this all sort of sounds like some nutcase's manifesto.

Let's put away the tinfoil hats folks. The refs did a crappy job and were swayed by the home crowd. End of story. Don't make the Memphis fanbase looks terrible over this.

I appreciate your point, however, if we get the rebound of Napier's missed 3, we would have won, IIRC.

I'm not arguing that there isn't an agenda, whether it is simple homer-ism or more sinister in protecting the elite names and/or rich people's schools, but we almost overcame whatever it was. I mean, the refs can bend the game but only in certain circumstances can they have complete control over who wins. For instance, on our possession where we had the shot clock violation, if we had hit a 3 then, they couldn't have made up enough calls to let UConn win.

My original post is based on nothing except 1st hand experience in the offcials locker room several years ago ... when the TV and money was nothing like it is today. I am not saying that EVERY game comes with subtle (and somethines not so subtle) interference. I am saying that there are several games every year where you can see it coming ... if you'll allow yourself to get past the "rose-colored glasses appraoch to "college sports."

The Louisville game last year at the Forum conjur up any ghosts? The reason Loserville is getting treated about the same as Memphis THIS year is simple ... They're LEAVING! (I posted this before the season began as to how conference games would be called for UL.)

Roach ... enjoy the games. Believe what you want (or need) to believe. I'm just telling how it happened in the real world once upon a time to me.

04-cheers

Agree.

I see no conspiracy or anything like that.

Just a singular game where today the home court and the star player resulted in the refs really screwing the pooch. And we were the pooch.

Herff - Have said this for years ... the only way to take refs out of the game is with the 3. That is pretty much it. You saw the game ... How can two UC guards go the entire game and commit 2 fouls between them? Enjoy the games ... I'm simply saying that every now and again ... it's a done deal.

Personally, i see no evidence that shoots mem-x theory down. He was a ref, none of us were. I have a friend who is an NBA scout and he thinks there's always been bias in refs at the NCAA level.
Far fetched? Maybe, but who knows and who am I to question stuff like that.

450 - the bias comes not from "personal" angles from the refs ... it has to do with how much work they get and who gets the margquee games. It never comes at you like, "Hey - Make sure UConn wins this one." Rather it takes the form of, Hey guys - got a big one today ... lets make sure we have a good one ... would hate to see anyone taken out of their style of play."

I really could care less whether some here think I'm a "screwball" or whatever ... whomever needs to think it doesn't go on - then hang on to it!

Enjoy the games! 04-cheers
