Ono, Cranley talk Burnet Woods
Santa J. Ono ‏@PrezOno 1h
Discussed Burnet Woods w Mayor Cranley. Vision would be to revitalize park for all; much like Washington Park in OTR. http://www.nbcnews.com/id/54391672/

http://www.nbcnews.com/id/54391672/#.Uv9mCmJdVDQ

University of Cincinnati President Santa Ono is teaming up with Mayor John Canley to try to create a plan to better connect the UC campus to Burnet Woods
"We talked about how Burnet Woods is such a beautiful green space that is underutilized and that we should figure out a way to get more running and walking and bicycle trails inside the park," Cranley said.

Maybe it was the morning sleep in my eyes but I read that headline as "Ono and Cranley in Burnett Woods" and I had a wave of creepiness and concern come over me.

If Burnett was modified to make it more student friendly and to accommodate it becoming the official tailgating site for U C, that sort of thinking wouldn't go on in your head...or would it?

LOL, I'm sure cutting down on use as a rendezvous point is one of the factors.

Seems like Ono is pretty good at getting the new mayor to agree with him.

think about what a parking garage under the park would do for campus parking. maybe UC could get rid of the CBA or Library garage (or whatever they are called now), giving them more space for educational/research buildings on campus.

...yes, jumping to conclusions but it would be cool if they did (weird - quotes from Office Space and Dazed and Confused just popped in my head there).

Apparently also convinced him not to extend parking meter hours until 9 PM around campus according to this morning's fishwrap. Still planning to do it downtown, though. Guess that will really help encourage people to go to evening events downtown01-wingedeagle

RE: Ono, Cranley talk Burnet Woods
I wished they would have talked about getting rid of the paid permits required to park in Burnet Woods during the day. It's a freaking public park with it's upkeep paid for by taxes. In what world should you have to pay to park in a public park?

The permits required have to have been some kind of agreement between UC, which was losing UC students' parking permit monies because they were parking in Burnet for free and the city who saw a revenue stream from permit sale.

Boondoggle on both UC and Cincinnati.

Really? I don't live in Cincinnati, bu from a distance he seems to be a far better mayor than they've had in recent history.

Compared to the guy he replaced, Cranley is John Kennedy.

Never going to happen.

Burnet Woods used to reach into what is now UC campus. The city of Cincinnati gave up part of Burnet Woods to allow UC to expand north and build DAAP, etc.

Burnet is important green space within the city of Cincinnati and the citizens of Cincinnati that live in Clifton would never agree to giving up that greenspace.

Cranley has to be able to throw a baseball better at least.
Mallory's attempt was an embarrassment to the entire region.

Yep. Burnett is vastly underutilized.

You voted for Cranley on things he won't deliver. Streetcar #1, and that's what got him elected. I told you before it ever took place he was making promises on which he couldn't deliver. When he was given the numbers, he killed the messenger, and spent several million in delays and accounting fees to tell us the numbers were in fact correct.

Parking meter plan is already being diluted and it hasn't even gone before council; a plan that adds $25M in debt.

Cranley is using his supporters as a stepladder to higher political aspirations.

Unless Cranley reverses course, history will treat Mallory better. The first few months for Cranley have been brutal at best.

You might be a little close to be impartial. Mallory was a bafoon living off of his father's last name.
