What is interesting is that Riley is really trying his moves and when he doesn't have fumblitis, his moves are getting better and better. If he hits 33 - 40% of those hooks, etc. he'll be fine. Dunks are high percentage shots....

I like the way Murphy is working Hughley in on those times where he can do offense/defense substitutions. Hughley is looking good on offense.

Ajayi is now deep on the bench....

And the big thing: 03-shhhh Riley isn't getting a ton of fouls... 02-13-banana

That's a great point about avoiding foul trouble. He's been a much more disciplined defender this year. Going straight up rather than flailing at guys coming into the lane.

If Riley had a developed offense he has enough defense to play in Turkey... er, I mean the NBA.

BTW, this is a takeoff of an ESPN commercial.

i'm a little late to the party, but....

this is a very rejuvenating win for us as a fanbase, and i assume for the team as well. it's great to see us get a big lead and keep it against a good team. for those of you who watched the game/were at the game, what worked for us on offense? from looking about the boxscore, it seems like we hit a high percentage of shots. were they all in 1-on-1 situations? were we moving the ball well? what was the story?

RE: GameDay: Toledo
Aside from two droughts- one in the middle of the first half, and one at the beginning of the 2nd half- it was our best ball movement in a lonnnnggg time. We were getting it to Daylen or Riley at the top of the key and hitting cutters to the basket. Talley absolutely worked Juice Brown and got to the line frequently. Karrington, while still not used nearly enough, was efficient and hit some 3's. Things clicked quite a bit.

The big thing was that we didn't slow down and run the "Murphy weave" in the waning minutes. Talley and Sims kept attacking, we pushed the ball after Toledo misses, and you could tell the Rockets threw in the towel with about 4 minutes left, with the "we want Ali" chants coming in.

One thing I did notice is that Murphy used Ward and Bryant together for only like 2 minutes. Didn't make sense to me, but apparently it worked. Daylen and Ward were monsters on the glass together, though. Maybe that's why.

News travels slowly to New Orleans? 03-lmfao

I'm just having fun.

BTW, the game is available on archive. I assume it is only available to those who subscribe to all-access, though.

I re-watched it and enjoyed it even more the 2nd time (I didn't have to worry about the outcome the 2nd time).

I think Riley is now up to 14 blocks for the game. 03-lmfao 03-lmfao And this turnovers doubled also... 03-lmfao

RE: GameDay: Toledo
hahaha! there were a lot of mardi gras parades this weekend that kept me from our beloved message board. but rest assured, i was thinking of EMU basketball often.

i always go to the mac website to stream games, but maybe i should suck it up and pay for all-access. i didn't realize they have archived games. that's a huge plus.

Sam - regarding not playing Ward and Bryant together, i'm sure some of it is because Harrison had a good game. but also, it seems like Bryant just isn't getting many minutes this season. at the start of the season it was injuries, and in early Jan i remember Murphy talking about pulling GBIII because of defensive mistakes. are those mistakes still happening? is it conditioning? i feel like our best chance at winning the MAC is 25 big minutes from Bryant. maybe Murphy is keeping him on a short leash to instill better habits by the time the tourney rolls around.

Good point. I think it was more Daylen playing well than Glenn making mistakes. Both Ward and Daylen do tons of little things defensively that won't show up in a box score. Same with Sims. His return was a huge lift at the end of the game.

Optimally, our best defensive lineup is Talley-Sims-Ward-Harrison-Riley, and that's the group we rode down the stretch.

Harrison has had a very nice string of games lately. He's more confident with the ball offensively too. Remember all those curious turnovers he had last year? Few and far between this season. Hard for Murph to sit him, so unfortunately it costs Glenn minutes.

Got to feel for Strickland. He is stuck behind a bunch of forwards who are playing very well.

I agree Sam, Harrison seems to do all the right things on the court fundamentally sound.
