I'm guessing he doesn't want to deal with the Winston civil suit.

Obviously this is all part of the plan to get Penn St and Notre Dame as 15 and 16...

WRONG. It's Texas and Michigan.

Look for the next FSU president to have UNC or Duke ties.

ACC schools need to make B1G experience an automatic disqualification in the vetting process. Hire people with ACC backgrounds who appreciate ACC tradition and rivalries. Build solidarity at the top and it will flow down.

Actually he is somewhat going home and gets to take credit for fixing a mess. A good deal if you can get it.

Simply put: That's stupid.

You don't hire (or not hire) a candidate based on their ties to athletic conferences. You hire the person you think can best run your university. You know, since that's their job.

FSU is a more attractive opening now than it was when Barron went through the selection process so I'm hopeful another solid hire will be made. As for Barron, I'm thankful for his few years - as I believe the university greatly benefited from his leadership - but given the most-unexpected nature of his departure, I'm not sure he'll be leaving many friends behind in Tallahassee.

Does that mean VT and NC State have to fire their guys from Purdue?

We are very happy with our Purdue man, then again he was an Arkansas man first before Cornell and Purdue. I'm also a UNC-Ch graduate among others but I am an NC State fan.

This situation at Maryland was unique and that situation was a function of the Maryland System, not UM-CP. As to UVa, Virginia's Board of Visitors have more control over UVa and the Governor has final control if he chooses to exercise that control. The last Governor did just that when there was a spat between the BOV and Va Chancellor. She's in no position to move UVa anywhere.
