True. Deep does not work without top level. That was actually the Big East football problem. The league was pretty deep, but didn't have enough cache at the top.

This.
It's all about bids, and how long those bids stay in the tournament. If we've got 2 teams in the elite 8 or 3 in the sweet 16, it's going to be hard to deny that the AAC is a legitimate basketball conference.

This is not an accurate statement at all. I know messageboards are for chats and so forth but I would waste my posting time worrying about the AAC than the Big East.
If you know you're better then there is no need to talk about it. The proof is on the court and in the rankings.
Why worry about AAC hoops? The league has half it's teams ranked and half are going to make the tournament. C-USA on the other hand is a 1 bid league so if I were you I'd take my own advice and worry about my own league.
Okay, first you mistook my poorly written post as taking a shot at the AAC which I wasn't. What I was saying if I was an AAC poster, I would not waste my time posting about if the AAC is a better basketball conference than the Big East.
The Catholics schools got what they wanted and AAC Basketball has thrived which is what most here wanted to happen.
Now concerning your last statement, if I was you (and thank God I'm not) I would spend more time away from messageboards or any other site that would cause me to lash out at ECU football players or any other ECU athlete because you don't think they are performing to your standards.
You know, all of those tweets you sent out after ECU lost to Marshall. Just sayin'.........

Well, I wasn't going to SAY it, but yeah.
People have talked about depth, and it's true that no one cares how deep your league is, in terms of how good your bottom teams are. Where it does matter is year-to-year. Having depth means that in a year when one of your top programs has a year like, say, Temple this year, there is a much better chance of someone else stepping up. It also means that, over 5 years, you should have 8-9 of your teams make the tournament.

You see to me, I don't think that's a big deal. I mean, the old Big East, I don't think anyone looked down on us because Seton Hall, Providence, Rutgers, and up to 2 years ago USF never made the tourney. I'd say the AAC has done really well this year despite Temple collapsing.
Also, I'd bring up that with SMU probably making the tourney this year- the AAC will be up to Cincy, Memphis, SMU, UConn, Temple, and USF all having made the tourney in the last 4 years. That's 6/11. Tulsa seems really on the right track. Houston made it what in 2010- so that would make it 7/11 in the last 5 years.

Quote:The Big East was specifically created as the basketball portion of the old league by the same name, whereas the American Conference was the football league. Well, don't look now, but the American has 5 teams in the AP top 25, while the Big East has only 2...
Quote:...if I had to choose between a basketball league consisting of Villanova, Creighton, Xavier, Marquette, Providence, Georgetown, etc., or one composed of teams like Cincinnati, Memphis, UConn and Houston... give me American Conference basketball every time!
For a G5 football league you guys sure play some good basketball!
lmao...F troll ... and lol again... I don't know what you mean by "For a G5 football league"... lol... But reverse scicolegy sure is brilliant in your part of neighborhood, I see.
Odd that you think I'm trolling, so let me make one last attempt to set the record straight:
1) yes, Va Tech sucks at basketball - have for a few years now. Even before that I used to watch other teams. TBH one of my favorites when I was living in Charlotte, NC was the 49ers vs. the UC Bearcats.
2) I mention "G5 football league" because the perception on the outside was that the C7 split away because they didn't want to be associated with football unless it was top tier (which I thought was a bad move on their part but could end up benefiting the AAC in the long run, IMO).
3) I was not "poking fun" - I'm being sincere when I say that I'd rather watch AAC hoops than Big East hoops - at least when it involves the top teams of both leagues. I'd watch UConn or UC or Memphis for sure.
That's it; just tried to compliment you guys - take it or leave it.
I may have gone a word or two overboard at how I came about with my previous post, Hokie Mark... Perhaps, an appropriate post other then a troll one like "For a acc basketball league, you all play ok football"... Just sy'n

what are you talking about... Georgetown will take any of you guys on...... Oh, wait.... Our coach just left to be a coordinator I think I heard at UAB.
AAC Football to me is > any of the other G5 leagues by a mile. Can't wait for next year a good bit- but moreso 2015 when you guys get to 12 finally.
to me the interesting part for you guys will be do you pick up a bb only school to compliment Navy. VCU to me seems such a great fit.

Agreed; would have liked the AAC for football, minus Tulsa and Tulane, and the remains of the Big East for basketball. The east coast exposure for UC was extremely important for a number of reasons, including fund-raising, student recruiting, etc. Don't think the Catholic schools wanted to remain under the thumb of the football playing schools though.

RE: AAC Hoops > Big East Hoops
I don't think we'll add anybody at all. I think AAC is taking a watchful eye in the couple years at the MWC if the AAC runs the Access Bowl table for the years to come. There is plenty of value ($$$) in 6 or 7 of the squads there that would look way pretty on the Olympic side (Imagine UNLV vs Cincy or Memphis vs SDSU basketball) or even Boise vs UCF-HOU-ECU in football...or the jewel of the Nile, AFA vs Navy.
I think this is why we haven't added any olympics.

Without seeing any pictures, I can safely say the crowd in Houston on NYE (UCONN-Houston) was bigger than this "game"!!!
im sure the crowd size had absolutely nothing to do with the foot + of snow in nyc and even higher amounts in the suburbs...

Actually it's not From this year's recruiting class (2014), here's the score from the ESPN top 100:
Big East - 14
American - 4
But I did enjoy your fantasy.
It will change over the next few..just wait.
Yes, cause losing Louisville and adding powerhouses in ECU, Tulane and Tulsa will help with recruiting.

RE: AAC Hoops > Big East Hoops
From an exposure standpoint the Big East is hurting.
I see a half dozen AAC games on during the week. Im not even sure what channel FS1 is on my TV. I have seen one big east game when scrolling through the guide and it was in the 600's or something like that.
It also hurts that the Big East name is not even discussed from April-November. While the AAC is constantly talked about and on TV due to the football component of the conference.
We (the AAC) got ripped off on the TV deal from a money standpoint, but hit a home run when it comes to exposure.
