RE: Delmas released
Per a league source, the Lions hope to bring Delmas back at a reduced rate. He first plans to test the open market. Delmas was due to earn $6 million in 2014. He has been a member of the Lions for all five of his NFL seasons.

How time flies. I was thinking he had three years. Hope he saved his big paydays.

RE: Delmas released
Sorry to hear that for a former Bronco but it was inevitable.

Only thing that recommended him as an NFL DB was his hitting ability (playing the run), which in today's League, matters little.

Plus he is undersized, which means injury issues were bound to happen.

Not big enough to cover TEs at Safety and not fast-quick enough to play Corner.

RE: Delmas released
His completion rate was one of the best around something like 43% which is very good for a safety, he is good in pass coverage especially in zone and would be better if he got to play free safety. The wide 9 the lions have been running has put him down in the box too often and he has gotten banged up. He will get a deal some place else or sign with the lions for less money. IMO

They were talking about him on Chicago talk radio today, Bears NEED a safety badly.

Would be tough, but I always cheer for former WMU players wherever they play. If they end up a Packer it's icing on the cake!

I especially hate the bears, right behind chips and just ahead of wolverines.

When Broncos end up elsewhere in the Norris, I can appreciate their play and hope that they lose at the same time. No worries.

Lions had to do it. Louis was scheduled to make a TON of money. Too much for his on field production.

IMO, if he would learn to play the ball rather than try to blow guys up on every play, he'd be a ton more effective. And probably hurt less often.

Completely agree. I also think he comes back to Detroit. I am not sure there is a team out there that is going to give him anything long term based on his health history and the fact that he could only practice ONE day a week all of last season. This after taking most of the previous season off.. However, if somehow he does pull off something longer term, then good for Lou... he deserves it. Guy plays the game the way it's supposed to be played... with heart, passion and an iron will. He's going to be missed in that locker room I am sure.

I also agree with that. I can see him coming back at a reduced price.

The Lions were always better when he was on the field. Problem was he wasn't on the field enough sometimes.

And like I said before, I think he needed to be more of a playmaker and less of a hitter. Too often he would take a terrible angle because he was trying to blow somebody up and the result would be a 60yd TD.

RE: Delmas released
I was also at the Ravens MNF game this year and it seemed to me that anytime it was 3rd and long, the Ravens threw the same 15 -20 yard pass over the LBs and in front of Delmas. He was playing 35 yards deep. I don't know all of the ins and outs, and what the scheme dictates, but the guy I was with and I commented on it often. Seems to me that maybe at some point you would start in that coverage and jump the route knowing what was coming. Then again if you miss the play its that 60 yard TD I just talked about.

RE: Delmas released
I think the problem with LD was the fact that his injuries prevented him from practicing, and in past years, playing too. As a result there were some coverage and communication problems in the secondary which directly resulted in touchdowns this year far too many times. You need guys to be able to practice and play. LD was too fragile. Can’t have that in the NFL.

I recall reading yesterday that Delmas has a degenerative knee condition. If that's so, he may be better off retiring, while he can still walk. Just MHO.

This ends really well for Lions fans if they go get Jarius Byrd.
