Considering we're never going to just put together Texas State type attendance numbers given our facilities, and the fact that it was 35 degrees Saturday, I am pretty satisfied with the crowd.
That shows we can get 700-800 in league play with a good team and better weather.
Wow, considering the weather thats not that bad. I think it was in the 70s-80s in San Marcos. This was some of the best weather I've seen in February in a long time.
Hope we can keep it going.
Your are right on TXST putting focus on baseball. We've had a good team over the last 10+ years. When I went to school there we started bring in bigger names on weekdays (Baylor was the first) and it was a sellout and got people excited. The stadium sucked then but I remember going to a weekeday game against Rice in I think 2007 were we came back and won. Best game I ever went to. Our conference games were still usually under 500 in the crowd though.
Then in 2009 we finally built the new stadium and schedules have improved year to year. We used to go to a tourney at UTPA to start every season and now we host one. Though next yera we open at home with a series against Oregon St instead.
In a recent intereview, our head coach said that the reason we play such a hard schedule is because its fun for the players and the fans.
Its boosted attendance and made us better overall. Plus more people come to conference games now as well.
Hope you AD tries to do the same.

RE: Baseball Opening Weekend!
I'm pretty sure on opening weekend last year at home against UGA, we averaged about 2,500 a game. May be off by a few hundred, but I remember it being pretty packed.
I think it was in 2012 we had about 3,300 show up for one of the games against GTech.
We open with our first home game this year against GT on Wednesday. After this weekend, I fully expect us to break 3000 again, pending good weather.

Official attendance for UGA last year:
"The attendance was the fifth-largest in stadium history and pushed the already record-setting three-game series attendance to 9,225."

We don't have the cash for a new stadium, but we're working to make our field unique. We're one of the few college baseball stadiums where you can bring your own grill and set up wherever you want, and those that sit out in right field can bring their own beer. We also have a unique thing that allows people to pull their cars up behind the right field fence and be able to tailgate out there without ever having to leave their car. (Our facilities people complain about this regularly.)
We'll always have trouble bring big names in because we don't have the names nearby that you guys do. Without an instate school willing to play us, we have to pretty much rely on an annual home game with Ole Miss and Memphis to highlight our nonconference stretch.
We do have a fun series ongoing with Missouri State that I've really enjoyed.

I'm thinking somewhere between 2nd and 3rd base would be the place to be.

RE: Baseball Opening Weekend!
UL's attendance numbers over the weekend:
Friday night - 3,718
Saturday G1 - 3,627
Saturday G2 - 3,627
Sunday - 3,211
Side note: Saturday's double header was counted as 1 game attendance-wise because there was only 1 ticket stub for the day, but I was there for all 4 games this weekend and the attendance at the second game Saturday was just as high as the first game, if not more. So the funny thing is they say we broke our own attendance record for a weekend series by having 10,556 in total.... but in reality, we had more like 14,000 total because it was 4 games.
The Cajuns have always had great attendance at baseball games, but it was nice to top 3,000 for every game on opening weekend. Normally that doesn't happen until conference play starts with South Alabama, Troy or FAU coming in. It could have something to do with us being ranked #14 to start the season.
Also, we play a 3 game weekend series with #21 Alabama coming to town in 2 weeks, can't wait to see what kind of numbers we produce with an SEC opponent coming in. Although I'm somewhat worried attendance will be affected by the fact that it will be Mardi Gras weekend. There's a lot of different parades and things to do in Lafayette on that weekend.

Makes sense. I forget we have a lot of top programs in the state that are becoming more and more willing to come to San Marcos. Texas comes this year which its only their second time. The first was to open the new stadium. They are the worst when it comes to playing road games. Arkansas sounds like a nightmare though.
