What is the source for this?

I think 247 takes an average of all the recruiting ratings like Rivals, Scout and ESPN so it's probably one of the best as far as recruiting rankings go.

Problem is that if 24/7 averages include rankings from Rivals, it is way off on at least UTEP, since I follow them, and probably others. Rivals only lists about 1/2 of UTEP's recruits at this point which then screws up the 24/7 averages quite a bit.

I think most schools in our conference either have a good rivals site or a good scout site. For tech, rivals is the only recruiting site that has all of our recruits.

Along with the fact you only have to add the scores divide by the number of schools in each conference and you can clearly see the rankings, according to 247sport's 2014 recruiting rankings will support the order that is presented here.

ManOnABuffalo, it is also obvious that the SBC is clearly last among the G5 confrences. The top SBC rated school would have finished:

11th AAC
6th CUSA
7th MWC
2nd MAC (this is the only conference that the SBC was even competitive with at the top of each conference.

According to the rankings provided by 247sport the SBC also had the lowest ranked school out of the 61 schools in G5

I just wanted the source, but thanks for your diatribe as to why CUSA is the greatest. We will just forget the head to head match ups from this past year conveniently of course.

Did you happen to read the thread title?

Rivals, is so out of touch with the pulse of recruiting for most non P5 schools it is Ridiculous. Just a few examples They have one CUSA school... North Texas with 1 commitment for the purpose of rankings. They List Navy with one recruit. They have ODU with 0 recruits. They have Akron out of the MAC with 12, they have 16. They have Buffalo with 18, they have 23. Bowling Green with 16, they have 21. IMO the information Rivals provides is incorrect 80% of the time with G5 schools. Rivals is not worth the time to read or try to evaluate.

Yea. It may seem convenient that ODU fans only look at 247 given that they rank our class fairly well. The fact that rivals and scout are unaware of our signees delegitimizes any ranking they produce, however.

Depends on if you have a rivals guy or not. Tech has a rivals guy...our rivals is always 100% correct. We don't have a scout guy. Our scout is usually 50-80% correct.

I appreciate what you are saying, my only follow up to what you have said is (we, ODU), I made contact with rivals by e-mail in April - July 2013 with absolutely no response. I tried to find out if ODU could be added to the site as an FBS, again NO response. I finally gave up. So my contention is, they seem to cherry pick who they would like to have the best representation for. Not the best way to conduct a business, at any level. I will try in the spring and contact them again. However just a quick overview of their past history it is not reassuring to me. The fact is they have yet to even update conference re-alignment moves that took place in 2013, much less the ones that are happening now in 2014. IMO, just shows a lack of care, or even a desire to get it accurate. I would love for them to just have enough interest to get it right. I hope they will improve in the future. For my money 247sport is the top recruiting site. They have shown they are willing to give the proper attention to who, what, is happening with recruits and lots of other information. I can only speak in reference to last years recruiting information. They are aggressive, and make a very concerted effort to get it correct. They are expanding all the time. I understand they are working on a new CUSA team alignment for this years 2014 site. Evan Watkins is the representative for ODU and other schools in the Mid Atlantic. He has stated several times he is very interested in what others would like to see to improve the site as well. At this point I don't think you can beat the information 247sport is providing and from what I hear it will only get better for all of us in CUSA.

I'm looking at Rivals right now and they show ODU with 29 recruits, 2 of those showing not signed but committed, 16 they have not rated. That's very strange or slipshod. UTEP has 23 commits but Rivals shows 12. Do they actually have someone entering data and if so where do they get it? And Navy they are showing with 27 recruits but just 1 signed and the other 26 as committed. Very odd.

ODU is not rated, at all! Not anywhere that I saw. The fact is the information they show is not very reliable. Navy shows at the bottom of the ranking page with 1 recruit. "Do they actually have someone entering data" Good question.

Thanks for this info. Congrats to CUSA! I'm still trying to wrap my head around what this means. As a fan of a perpetual cellar dweller, the comparative rankings appear heartening.

RE: Recruiting Rankings
Rivals is only as good as your site owner and administrators. If you want a good rivals site you have to get a certain amount of paying members. Those payments allow for the site to have a paid recruiting admin. You get to a paid admin and you have someone who write recruiting articles and keep your commit list current.

Our rivals site has folks with full press credentials with the school so they have access to coaches, the SID, etc. they set up with the coaches on signing day and report on commits as they come in etc. If you don't have a guy, and you are the entrepreneurial type, you can buy your schools site and then work to drive membership and maybe make some money doing something you enjoy.

RE: Recruiting Rankings
Another question about the recruit ranking services. Do they each employee "experts" to review film or go thru some legitimate process to evaluate players? Many players receive widely varying ratings which then leads me to believe it's in the eye of the beholder.

RE: Recruiting Rankings
Let me help shed some light on some of this. I work part-time for the WKU Rivals sight. I mostly do game day stuff and have full press credentials and access. However, recruits are constantly reaching out to both myself and the sight administrator. The owner of the sight doesn't do much with it. Rivals, as well as every recruiting network, has a scout team it employs that attend games as well as reviews film in order to evaluate talent. That being said, there are tons of players all across the country. Not every player gets evaluated, some have bad games when they do and can hurt their star rating if that is the only game the scout attends, etc. Many factors go into all of these rankings. As others have said your school will only be as good as whoever you have running your site to help keep tabs on the recruits. If your school does not have someone running a Rivals site for you then your rankings are likely to be skewed and/or inaccurate. Anyone interested in buying and starting a Rivals site for your school if you do not have one, PM me and I will help to get you in touch with the proper channels for doing so.
