(MAC hoops): Guess all things are cyclical
up for a while and down for a while and for those down, they will come up.
This is EMU @ NIU in '98 (???). Big crowd in DeKalb in their old gym. Very competitive game, etc. etc.

Now EMU and NIU have beautiful Convos and are drawing flies. NIU isn't winning... We haven't had a big season since '98.
I guess the success has all moved to Kent (which was pits in the 90s), Akron, Ohio, etc.
And Toledo is a MAC West rebound team.

Wow, memories of the old fieldhouse. NIU is coming back I think - we're at least mediocre this year instead of horrific. The crowds will recover some when people realize we aren't that bad. We'll have to be an actual good team I think to get back to 4-5K in attendance though. And that won't look like much in the Convo. The fieldhouse only fit 5-6K tops.

Amazing folks didn't mind those wooden bench seats. Kind of like a high school.
I don't want to burst NIU's (or EMU's) bubble, but it takes a lot to win back fans who were used to winning, and sometimes big, and then go on drought which lasts one to two decades. (We didn't draw big the year our FB team had a chance to become bowl eligible).
I'm kind of watching the same thing here in No. Virginia where George Mason went to the Final Four not many years ago and now this season JUST WON their first conference game last Saturday.
Fans are not like light switches where they can be turned off and on again quickly.

I agree, it will take a while. I think it will be somewhat faster for BB than for football though because 1) it's cheaper and 2) it's indoors.
BTW the fieldhouse was like a high school arena, but the bench seats weren't any less comfortable than the aluminum benches at the football games, IMO.
