Joe Jackson (RE: Gonzaga game)
I saw Joe Jackson play in High School and my posts are well documented. I saw a very talented but undisciplined kid who had a long way to go.
Throughout his first two years, we've seen flashes of what he could be. (CUSA tournament MVPs) There were times when supposedly he was thinking about transferring because things were so poorly at Memphis.
I have to say that I'm very proud of the maturity, the composure, and the LEADERSHIP that he has shown. Sometime at the end of the sophomore year, casual observers saw a change in Joe Jackson.
He could've quit and have been right there with Snap Hunter, Billy Richmond, Scooter McFagdon, etc. But instead we will forever mention him in the same breath as Andre Turner, Chris Garner, etc.
The fact that he hung in there through the hard times and became the player he is today makes me more proud of him than I could be of anyone.
Go Tigers! Go Joe! Whatever happens the rest of the year, you've earned your place in Tiger Lore.

Proud of JJ, he worked his rear off tonight, along with Dixon and King. Anyone know why Johnson sat the entire 2nd half?

He got a little too heated at one point and needed to sit. Pastner smartly decided to keep him there to cool down.

Johnson came within an eyelash of getting T'ed up. Last thing we needed in a tight game

As far as Joe, the word "Warrior" gets overused...but that's what I kept thinking as I watched him cut Gonzaga's heart out at both ends of the floor. Warrior.

In fact, he probably should have been T'd for the cheap elbow on the giant Polish guy. I think it was a very good call to keep him on the bench. Also, I think in crunch time he takes some very ill advised 3 pointers that are not in the flow of the game at all. He does play dogged defense & he can really get to the rim, but his 3 point attempts are so flat & taken at such bad times, that we may be better off with Joe, Chris & Dixon in crunch time.

That's one of the benefits of FOUR great senior guards. Geron had to come out and we were still able to frustrate the Zags on offense and defense.

Nice post. I have to say though I have been high on Joe since day one. Twice Joe put the team on his back, freshman and sophomore years, and took us to the ncaa tourney. I have never had a problem with Joe. I have always thought of him as a high character guy. He has racked up stats like a pinball machine. He has been my favorite since his first game as a frosh. I will miss him.

Tiger folklore indeed. He has earned it under so much pressure for a college student. That block was the play of the year and simply awesome.
