NBA teams aren't going to draft a player that can't keep his emotions under control. The NBA has had enough problems with people unable to control their emotions.

Pacers tried drafting "nice" for 5 years. Didn't work and other teams know it.

What I saw in that video... if the fan said what we think he said... this was not another "Ron Artest". Smart immediately withdrew himself after standing up to the bully.

You say that to a 20 year-old laying on the ground, many are going to come up swinging. There's a difference between taking that kind of crap while on your feet, and quite another when you're in a defenseless position.

Quote:Statement from Tech

In conjunction with a review of the actions of Oklahoma State guard Marcus Smart by the Big 12 Conference, Texas Tech has completed its own thorough investigation regarding the incident at last night's basketball game involving Red Raider fan Jeff Orr. Texas Tech interviewed Mr. Orr along with numerous fans, photographers and arena personnel that were seated in the area surrounding him. Mr. Orr vehemently denied the accusation that he used a racial slur and no one in the vicinity of Mr. Orr heard such a slur.

Mr. Orr has admitted to directing an inappropriate phrase toward Marcus Smart. Texas Tech has been able to verify that statement independently through video provided by Texas Tech Sports Broadcasting. At no point on the film can a racial slur be heard.

Texas Tech is committed to sportsmanship and expects fans to abide by the rules set forth by the Big 12 Conference and the university. Comments such as those used by Mr. Orr are unacceptable and not condoned by Texas Tech University.

As a result of this incident, Mr. Orr has voluntarily agreed to not attend a Texas Tech home or away basketball game for the remainder of the season.

Jeff Orr Statement

"I would like to take this opportunity to offer my sincere apologies to Marcus Smart, Oklahoma State, Tubby Smith and the Texas Tech Men's Basketball program. My actions last night were inappropriate and do not reflect myself or Texas Tech - a university I love dearly. I regret calling Mr. Smart a "piece of crap" but I want to make it known that I did not use a racial slur of any kind. Additionally, I would like to offer my apologies to Texas Tech fans that have been embarrassed by the attention this incident has created."

Well, this crap can be put to bed now. The fan didn't say anything racial

Not very sporty of Mr. Orr to call an opposing player a piece of crap. And Mr. Smart deserves more than a slap on the risk. You got nip this kind of crap in the bud before it becomes a common problem.

No it shouldn't. A three game suspension is more than enough for lightly shoving the fool.

Marcus Smart lost his self control for a moment because he was called a "piece of crap". Do you see how ridiculous that statement is? Either Marcus Smart is not mentally put together, or he was called far more than a "piece of crap". Based on what we know, what do you think is more likely? We have an old man who has a history of berating players, and a young man with no history of misbehavior.

I'm sure if he said something racist that he would be the first to admit it and ruin his life.

And Tech can find no evidence of something that if true would hurt their recruiting and embarrass them on the national stage!?

Didn't see any of this coming! Real M. Night Shyamalan type twist!

Sure sounds like "Piece of crap" to me. Footage released by Texas Tech.

Marcus Smart is a liar who pulled the race card and now it can be proven that he lied. Marcus had better get thicker skin because NBA fans will eat him alive. I know one thing is for sure, I would NOT apologize. I hear far worse in aggy land where they are supposed to be the worlds greatest fans.

He's been acting out and throwing temper-tantrums all season..

I think the punishment was warranted and they got it right with the 3 game suspension. Also think it's a fair trade that Orr won't be at anymore Tech games this season.

^ Notice the standard JML tactic of trying to redirect and imply that Tech isnt as bad as mean old aggy...even though they were voted worst fans in the Big 12 by a land slide by the other schools.

This will all blow over.

It really isn't that big of a deal.

A lowlife fan got the reaction he was after from a hothead punk player. There isn't any news here.

The kid got his suspension and the lowlife won't be coming back to games for a while. I'd call that settled.

The bickering and crap will just serve to reinforce the ideas behind the stereotypical Tech fan.

Yeah, I'm just glad Jeff didn't have a sword. That could have been far worse than "sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me"?

Tech fans are loud, passionate and rowdy. I have no problem with our fans making the opponent feel uncomfortable.

Seems like we have a bunch of pansies on here hoping to attend a golf game. The guy said Smart was a "piece of crap" which is quite tame compared to the teabagging bama fan and the aggy sword waving lunatic.

All just your opinion...but what does your conference think of you?

Lets take a look:

I have no problem if opposing teams hate playing in Lubbock. Our fans are passionate, loyal and extremely rowdy and it is helping bring back the "homefield advantage"

If you are scared, go to a golf game and STHU.

reading comprehension

it said "rudest" and "most polite" not "most passionate, loyal and "rowdy"

I have no doubt you don't care if Tech fans are a-holes to others...thats what got you those two rankings to begin with.

Yeah, reading comprehension being taught by a t-shirt fan.

The survey says rudest which equates to loud, passionate and rowdy in my book. I don't care if opposing teams think we are rude, I want them to feel uncomfortable. If they can't handle "rude" passionate fans, go play golf.

If that is what "rude" means then Nebraska would have won that category by a mile!

But it turns out your book is wrong...here is what it actually means:

Quote:offensively impolite or ill-mannered.

Hey 10th, if you can't handle the heat, get out of the kitchen and go to a golf game. Fans are supposed to make the opposing team feel uncomfortable.

Hey its a lot better than being attacked by a sword waving lunatic or having "passionate" fans that demand we uncover at gomer pyle.
