RE: Joe's Block
Didn't read this thread yes, so not sure if anyone posted this from the Zags board.

Quote:When a man seven feet tall and nearly three hundred pounds lets his slam get blocked by someone a foot shorter?, there isn't much else to say? They were laughing at Gonzaga on their bench, knowing that when push came to shove?, the Tigers would prove mentally and physically tougher than the Zags.

I immediately thought of Boyd and Sumtner. I think what Joe did was even more impressive.

RE: Joe's Block
To me, Joe has been King of Memphis from day one. He just had to go out and prove it. The look of determination on his face, his efforts in every game, and what I know about how he has taken care of his family in this town make it obvious that he, indeed, has the heart of a warrior. I think he will go down as one of the greatest Tigers of all time, and I will really, really miss him next year. He is an example of what I love about this city. Happy birthday, Joe!

RE: Joe's Block
To me, it showed Joe's fearlessness. It actually made me forget about a couple of those rebounds he went and got late in the second half. Total disregard for Gigantor and Bowel, or whatever his name was.

At the risk of overstating the case--

That's the type of play that could mark a turning point for an entire season.

agree. That guy dunks it I think we lose the game, and maybe go into a tailspin.

Same here, but I can't even recall if we won the Sumtner game, what point the dunk came at, or wether it changed the momentum, so I may be shortchanging it. Joe's play was incredible though.

It's even better than CDR's posterizing of Kevin Love. Definitely a Tiger moment for the history books.

Not quite. I'd rank Joe's block second best.

Of the top of my head- a few great moments in Tiger history:
Andre Turner game winner vs UAB NCAA tourney 1985

Andre Turner game winner vs Boston College NCAA tourney 1985

Antonio Anderson 2 FT's to beat Texas A&M NCAA tourney 2008

Keldrick Bradford from beyond half court with 1 second to go at Pyramid to beat Charlotte. 1993?

Tigers come back from 7 pts down with 14 seconds to go to beat ORU-John Wilfong hit game winning 3 at buzzer 1987.

Penny's last second 3 from the corner to beat Tulane at Tulane in 1992?

Larry Finch scoring 12 points in last 2 plus minutes to lead Tigers to comeback win vs Wichita St.? 1972?

CDR's Block of Kevin Love 2008 NCAA tourney

AA end to end driving layup to beat UAB and extend CUSA winning streak 2008?

Bobby park's winning tip-in vs VA tech in Metro conference tourney 1983?

Joe Jackson's game winning shot vs Utep in CUSA championship game 2012.

JJ-THE BLOCK 2014 vs Gonzaga

There are many more-just what I remembered today.

Good stuff...but...those were game winning free throws in 2011.

One of my favorites-I was there in Austin with my family-David Vaughn's last second tip-in vs Purdue to advance to Sweet 16 1995?

RE: Joe's Block
Last second shots are always memorable.

Trying to think of other more obscure moments that are huge.

Joe's block.
Anderson's FREE THROWS.
Turner's steal.
Will Coleman chasing down a Tulsa kid for a block and a road win in Pastner's first year.
Joe's PASS in the Southern Miss road win in 2011.
Lee's jitterbug.

How could I forget Andre's steal against Pee Wee Barber? Long post game story on that one.

I know you are recalling off the top of your head but, IIRC it was CDR's dunk on Kevin Love

AA beat Tulsa at the buzzer.
