2014 Border Classic. Michigan vs. Ohio HS all-star game.
I know it's still early (the game isn't until June), but they just released the roster for team Michigan. It features 4 Bronco recruits and many other big-time names from across the state.

For those that don't know, the Border Classic is an annual HS all-star game composed of graduated seniors from Michigan and Ohio. It's on June 14 this year at Donnell Stadium, University of Findlay in Findlay, Ohio.

2014 Michigan roster: http://www.thedzone.net/2014/02/team-mic...va_CoVw6k8

Broncos featured:

OG Curtis Doyle
OT Chukwuma Okorafor
DT Kenny Finley
DT Nick Matich

Team MI coaching staff: http://www.thedzone.net/2014/02/2014-bor...va_wIVw6k9

Can't find any info on Ohio's team yet.

I thought they did this last year as well...

Unless that was with seniors that had just graduated college. It might have been.

I guess it is really cool if you are into the UM/OSU rivalry. Me, not so much.

I'd rather not have our recruits play in it. Why risk the injury?

Good! Pennsylvania got sick of the Big 33 game with Ohio. Hope it's televised. Big 33 use to feed my FB fix that time of year.

I played in the old michigan high school all star game and it was cool but it was 3 counties vs. the rest of the state. I think this is a cool experience for the kids. I enjoyed my time and reported to wmu the next day. It gave me a taste of what college was going to be like and met guys I became good friends with. Banged one dudes girlfriend when I got to wmu, he went to emu so I thought it was fair. Actually a pretty good story for another day.

The game was today and Team Michigan won. It wasn't on TV, but was on the radio I believe.

http://www.freep.com/article/20140614/HS...r-football

Apparently Nick Matich had a heck of a game. I know he had at least 1 sack.

Interesting stat: Team Michigan had 240 rushing yards, Ohio had -4.

The Ohio coach said after the game that Team Michigan was bigger and more physical up front, which is good news for us, since the 4 WMU recruits there were OL Chukwuma Okorafor, OL Curtis Doyle, DL Nick Matich and DL Kenny Finley.

Here's the full updated roster: http://www.thedzone.net/2014/02/team-mic...5xEA_ldU1Y

Most of the top 2014 Ohio HS players passed on this game.

FREEP said there was only a "smattering of fans on each side."

Doesn't bode well for future of "Classic."

...which in part explains lack of interest by media and public in game.

Also Ohio had two in-state (North-South, by divisions) All-Star games.

Be surprised if "Border Classic" lasts beyond next year.

Quote:All three of Michigan’s touchdowns came on the ground, including Central Michigan-bound Devon Spalding’s 60-yard burst up the middle, putting literal and scoreboard distance between the teams on the first drive of the third quarter, pushing to a 17-7 lead. When Michigan tailback Ian Erikson (Eastern Michigan) ran one in from 10 yards out to make the score 24-7 with 6:43 to play in the third, the game was under control.

04-cheers

I hear they had some good OL prospects blocking for them and opening up nice holes.

RE: 2014 Border Classic. Michigan vs. Ohio HS all-star game.
To quote the Ohio coach "they were simply too big for us up front."

Two of the four included 6'6" 295 Chuck Okafor w/offers from Florida, Arkansas, and nearly every MAC school. Former Detroit Lion Lomas Brown was so impressed when saw Okafor he called up his Alma Mater (Florida) and told him "you need to get on this kid," and they did.

The other Olinemen 6'5" 305 Curtis Doyle is from right in the Chimp backyard, even then Coach Zzzzzzzzzz...... Offered and Curt spurned his offer.

According to reports Spalding (who had one offer.......Chimps, and interest from EMU 03-lmfao) had a hole you could drive a truck through.

Things have gotten so bad for Chimp recruiting their Rivals Slappy site posted a headline Welborn chooses CMpew over WMU. Strangely, Welborn wasn't even listed in Rivals or Scouts database until Welborn committed to 4 years in Dullardville. The only evidence that he had an offer from Western was a twitter from an obscure recruiting blog that said Fleck offered at the last minute. If true I have to wonder if Fleck doesn't do this just to get under Snoozers skin. Welborn is a Rb, and Fleck already has 6 soph/freshmen RBs on scholarship. Can't imagine he'd offer an obscure RB with only a Chimp offer when he already has 6 in the fold.

Last year you folks were all giddy that you'd stolen a Kazoo (Portage) Olinemen out from under Flecks nose. Then the kid up and decommits from Coach Sominex and commits to Ferris. I suggest Midland Dan stop worrying about Fleck and start concentrating on beating out those GLIAC schools 07-coffee3

This isn't the "probably beat" year. This year should be much like last years game. Next year should be the "probably beat" year. After that if Enos is still around I think they're in for a world of hurt. Midland Dan is not getting in done in terms of battling for talent, and those chickens will come home to roost in a few years.

Enos took over a program with talent. He should have had a winning season in his first year. He has beaten 1 D1 program with a winning record since he arrived. Cubit didn't focus on recruiting MI giving him a free pass to recruit the state for mid major talent. Enos had everything working in his favor. Yet a totally inexperienced head coach blows him out of the water in head to head battles for talent and continues to do so. Even on the field in a head to head battle it took a missed 20 yard FG to save Enos's job, and even then he had better talent on the field.

In his last two games against Cubit he had better talent yet he lost those to by more than 30 points. He simply doesn't have it, but he's had enough stray dogs on his schedule to make it too hard to fire him. I'm praying he wins 6 games this year, it's the perfect storm.

Be patient. Chimp football is sinking faster than Chimp hoops. Even if they can Enos, Heeke loves BIG retreads. Unlike Miami I don't think he 'll learn his lesson.

Midland Dan changed the offense and his change didn't fit the personnel. That's a valid excuse for not delivering these days. :/

They, like us, still run a lot of spread. Midland Dan even recruited spread QBs in Niznak and Boone (in the great CMU tradition he left to serve out jail time). It's not like Coach Sominex totally abandoned the spread, he's just left with a bunch of immobile QBs, so he's had to adapt.
