Rice women Track & Field at Meyo Invitational (Notre Dame)
Today and tomorrow (February 7-8), one part of the Rice women's track and field team will compete at the Meyo Invitational at Notre Dame.

RESULTS LINK

Earlier today, Simone Martin was the unlucky 13th fastest in the 60 meter prelims (7.68 seconds), as only 12 advance to the semis.

Later, redshirt freshman Cali Roper will compete in the 5,000 meters (Heat 2). Also, Leslie Schilsky and Imani Mark are scheduled for the 500 meter run. The 500 meters is not a C-USA or NCAA event, but many conferences have it as part of their indoor championships. It will be a good workout event for our women.

Tomorrow, freshman Katie Jensen will run in the "B" section of the 3,000 meters (Heat 1). It will be just her 2nd ever indoor race.

Allie Schaich (Heat 1) and Heather Olson(Heat 2) will be in the "B" section of the Mile Run.

Tyneisha McCoy is scheduled for both the 400 meters (Heat 6) and the 200 meters (Heat 13).

Imani Mark is listed for the 800 meters (Heat 2), while Eboni Sutherland (Heat 4) and Precious Knighton (Heat 6) are in the 200 meters.

Rice is entered in the 4 x 400 relay (Heat 2).

Cali Roper finished 8th in the 5,000 meters with a solid time of 16:52.07.

As of right now, that time places her 28th in the NCAA in this event, and she is #2 in C-USA.

In the 3,000 meters, Katie Jensen won her heat by a huge margin, and was 12th overall (10:05.29).

Heather Olson was 5th in her heat of the mile (5:02.62) and finished 18th in a loaded field.

Tyneisha McCoy in the 400 meters (56.95) and Eboni Sutherland in the 200 meters (25.78) had their season-best times.

Some very nice results. I'm especially impressed with McFarlane going 4 inches over her 5-6 frame to jump 5-10. It's nice to see someone challenging Sonya Henry's 25-year-old records. Uke is also doing great and maybe she can even challenge some older records in the amazing marks set by Regina Cavanaugh.

I also notice Christian Covington's little sister is doing really well for Georgia as a true freshman. Isn't there one more Covington sister that does track and field? Any chance we could sign her?
