Oh well. Hope it works out but certainly not holding my breath. At least Coach Bailiff apparently looked outside the program and don't just settle for what was readily available.

I'm sure it comes as a surprise to all of us that our QB play the past three seasons was on the cutting edge of efficiency.

Who knew?

This reminds me of the Fanuzzi/JT Shepard QB platoon.

Exactly what I was going to say - the good ol' QB-by-committee.

Also reminds me of the Dallas Cowboys offensive playcalling dynamic.

I expected it to mention an exhaustive search... out the office door and turn right, then out the office door and turn left...

So apparently Edmondson's audition went just ok? Not great enough for him to get the job but decent enough for him to share the job?

Maybe they think highly of Lynch?

Lynch's accomplishments at Rice are more impressive than Edmondson IMO.

How can we be so sure? This was the rumor since immediately after the Liberty Bowl and turned out to be the case. He might have interviewed several other simply for process purposes and to go through the motion.

RE: Edmondson and Lynch Named Co-Offensive Coordinators
I never like the idea of co-coordinators. Period. Never. That's just bad organizational dynamics. I'd rather see either one get the job than to see the title shared. I'd rather see someone else get the job than either of them. But I'd rather see one than two.

Somebody has to be accountable. Then again, accountability has not been a strong attribute of Rice athletics in the past. Let us hope that changes at some point.

Oh, well, looks like Texans are going with zero. O'Brien's going to call his own plays. So between us we'll have enough OCs for two teams.

Can we just have O'Brien call ours as well?

This seems like an impossible situation during game day. I wonder who will end up in the press box during the game or will they take turns?

i don't like co-anythings, and the higher in the organization the less I like it.

I hope they can work out a successful division of responsibility.

RE: Edmondson and Lynch Named Co-Offensive Coordinators
Not defending the situation as I agree w/ most here about co anything.. but from DB's eyes one could argue hiring Coach Z from outside was a disaster and promoting Thurmond when Dreisbach left from w/in was a success and and thus having continuity in staff is/was part of the reasoning. You know what you are getting when you promote people who already have worked for you. When you hire from outside, it is a crapshoot. You can get something better..can get something worse as many factors (fit w/ players, staff, culture, philosophy, style, knowledge of game, fit w/ 'Rice', etc.). All of those things can make something go wrong....and even though we won 11-games, Rice OC job is not the A&M OC job so the quality of candidates will have more risk as you have guys unproven on way up and will be out-the-door to next thing after a season or two (Applewhite, Herman, etc.) who won't have loyalty or continuity or guys who are proven but are past prime (Dreisbach, Z, etc.)..so I'm sure this is DB logic.

When someone asks me about DB, I say his biggest strengths and weaknesses are the same....continuity and loyalty. At least he is predictable.

Anybody know whether they are truly co-OCs or were they both given titles to justify more cash to the bean counters while in practice we really only have one OC and one to give advise in run or pass game scripting?

Are we still hiring one assistant coach? It seems like we lost one coach but so far, just promoted the titles of two current coaches.
